Got a question regarding Matco, Mac, Snap-On Rollers....

Im currently in the market for a new toolbox as my existing is getting extremely full. This time around Im thinking of going with a Matco, Mac or Snap-On but confused on models so figured I ask here!

Im debating on Mac Tech1000. Ive been told its well built for home use probably not for professional use. The Mac Select would be the lower model right? And the Macsimizer being the higher end.

Im also thinking of the Snap-On Heritage model. But how is that equivalent to the Tech Series? Im not sure what the order is for snap-on so if someone can clarify would be great.

Than theres Matco. Dont know much about those models either.

Any help would be great. Dont mean to be beating a dead horse on these discussions.

Mac tech 1000 is a decent box for pro or home. Avoid Mac Select and Snap on Heritage series as you can do much better for the money. They are very lightly built.

Don't know if you have an aversion to buying used, but good boxes can be bought off Craigs List if you are patient. I know, I have bought dozens over the years. If you are close to Maryland, I can even sell you one

I mean Craftsman are great as well but compared to these companies there is no comparison from what Ive seen. I really thought the Heritage were well built so that was another option so Thank you for the advice! The other models that snap on have are either small or way to high in price! Do you know anything with Matco? How are those?

I plan on buying used but the only thing that ***** is that Mac wont warranty anything that is not purchased from the original owner! But than again Im not planning on spending retail on a new one either since its mainly for home use. Im in no rush so Ill just keep an eye out. I just debating on other brands but it appears best bang for the buck would be Mac.

Im located in Cali so its a ways out from me and you unless you want to do a road trip? lol

X2. I have the tech triple bank & have no doubt it will last me forever being used professionally. I wanted a macsimizer but it was a little too tall for me to use as a work surface. They do make shorter ones but the tech is plenty stout. Heritage & select boxes are 20" deep or less & that makes a huge difference in space & ability to configure. So goes heritage, classic, master& epiq. Classic should be good for most people. Matco is 4s, 5s & 6s. All are solid. I'm not a fan of the 4s drawer configuration or divider in the top drawer but they can be had cheap used.

I had a double bank tech1000 for about 12 years in a professional environment. No issues. Everything still worked as it should have and still looked great when I sold it 4 years ago for 1800.

That warranty policy should be the same for all truck brands but ultimately it's up to the driver so you might get some help if you're a really good customer but a friend of mine expected so to replace slides on a box he got on ebay. Ended up costing him more than the box.
Assuming both are in decent condition the choice is really preference. The matco is a little bigger & better suited for cased or bulky tools while the mac has more drawers for hand tools.

Matco boxes are now 4's, 5's and 6's series. From what I understand from a former Matco dealer on here is the sheet metal and frame are all the same. The difference comes in the quality of the casters, and slides. The more expensive boxes will have more drawers and fancier trim and more options.

I have sold a few Matco 4's and they would be on par with the Mac Tech 1000 I would say. Have had a few of the older, nicer Matco's and really like them.

Not true about Mac only honoring warranty for only the original owner. Last summer they sent me a complete set of brand new slides for a MB 1700 that I was not the original purchaser of.

Snap-On heritage line is actually the boxes they built for years. They've been building bigger and bigger boxes for a long time now. If the size works for you there is nothing wrong with them, they are great boxes.

Yea not much people are Matco fans I can see. You are not the only one that mentioned there configuration. I really thought Snap On had a deep drawers so thats good to know. Thank you. Ill probably just stick with a Tech Series.

How did you do it? Did you call them or did you get it from the distributors? Did they require anything? Did you tell them you weren't the original? I mean if its possible than it would give me more options on getting better deals on used boxes that need some work.

The snap on I was looking at were the Classic and Heritage but from what Im hearing is that they are not as deep. I believe the Tech is actually 25 in depth? Can anyone confirm?

As far as Matco vs mac, the 4's are about the same as the tech 1000's

Snap on Classic series are 24" deep IIRC and are about on par with the Mac Tech series.

Used Tech 1000's I have had range from $1,000 rough and dirty, quick flip to $2500 for a perfect one with a Stainless top. These are boxes i have sold. Note I have a store and can get a fair price but I can't get what the trucks get for them used.

If you want used, look at CL every day if not several times a day. Look for 2 things. One, look for a great deal, be the first one to call and to show up with cash in hand. Note, screaming deals don't last so you must be fast. Second, look for the boxes that have been relisted over and over. They want too much money. Email them and see if they are real negotiable on price. Sometimes people get realistic after no action for weeks or months. Won't always work so you have to use the scatter gun approach and send lots of email.

A SO classic, Mac tech and a Matco 4s are all about the same level and fine for pro use. Only downfall I see with any is the caster maybe a little light for a heavily loaded box that has to mobile. My classic 60 rolls fine with top chest and full of tool. A buddy has a 96 with top boxes, lockers and full to the brim, last thing it likes to do is roll. The SO heritage and Mac select boxes are 18" deep boxes so size wise the same as a 40" craftsman. I wouldn't call either bad for a pro box, just small by today's level. When it comes to the classic, tech or 4s, a lot comes to which layout you like and which dealer you like.

Its funny when I wasnt really looking I saw alot but as soon as I was ready and determined to buy one I dont see them. lol Funny how that works. Yea I keep looking daily but also due to work even if I found one for a deal I wouldnt be able to pick it up till later in the evening or weekends. Will see what happens. Thanks for the info!

Yea I was debating on getting a craftsman but as you stated the depth wasnt what I wanted so thats why I started looking at the dealer types. At first was thinking of going with the lower models but would be back at square one and is the reason why i wanted the tech so wasnt sure how equivalent snap on and matco was so thank you for that clarification. Also from what I hear the lower models are not worth the money as they are not built as strong as the next level up. Correct?

His was a kr1001 for $1000 & he put another $1500 into it. I got the one below for $1700 with a few knicks & a missing drawer pull but no major damage. It's 12 years old but spent the last 6 in a widow's garage.
