I tell ya its one beat up refurb. The handle is looks as if it was ran over a few times before someone found it and exchanged it. They tried to polish it up but its till pretty dinged up. I've never broken a Snap on tool, but if I did would it be possible for me to get a tough looking refurb for a replacement?

Take it back and take a new one off the shelf; take it to the counter or ask to see the rebuilt ratchets.... get the one you like best!

You are the customer; the warranty is a customer satisfaction based warranty; if you are not happy.... return the ratchet, ask for another one or a new one. Stand your ground; they are supposed to do the warranty exchange to your satisfaction... if not ask for a manager.... still get nowhere? Call the Sears Customer relations hotline; you will get a call from your local store and the issue should get resolved! Good luck! :)

You are getting some very good information from the above GJ members. Always be nice, but firm and stand your ground. When you leave happy you will come back for more tools in the future ;sears does not want to piss you off.

I am reminded of this story:

Several years ago in my hometown we had a large Dept. store that sold most everything. Well one day a woman came in and she started screaming that the shirt she bought was not in good shape and she wanted her money back.

The man who owned the store just happened to hear the woman screaming and he told his worker give that woman her money ASAP. To which the horrified worker replied "sir that woman bought the shirt at J.C. Penney and we are not that company"!

In this bad economy sears needs all your business.

The refurb'd ones they grab from under the counter **** most of the time. Last time I went to exchange mine the first two they gave me didn't even work. Totally locked up.

Absolutely!

The key to winning in retail is this, "the customer is always right".

Be nice, be respectful, the kid (typically youger people) at the counter are simply following the rules and have no personal stake in the job except keeping their job by following the rules.

I worked retail for about 6 years while in college, our rules for exchanging Levi's were pretty liberal. I can't tell you how many times people came in with filthy, dirty old Levi's and asked for an exchange and I told them no. They asked for the manager and walked out with a brand new pair of jeans.

I exchanged probably hundreds of ratchets when I worked @ Sears in the tool dept. for 7 years; I used to open the drawer and let people pick out what they wanted; sometimes, people insisted on new! Best to have a happy customer! :) Again, remember the warranty is a satisfaction based warranty; you need to be satisfied and happy with your purchase or go to a manager or the sears customer relations number....

My local Sears doesn't refurb ratchets anymore - they just give you a new one off the shelf. I talked to the guy who traditionally did the actual refurb work - he said they took his supply of rebuild kits some time ago and put him out on the sales floor.
Signs of the times, I guess.

If I have a C-man rat with sentimental value I try and find the repair kit on ebay or somewhere and do it myself.

Can I go back and complain? Its been a day tomorrow it will be two days.

You shouldn't have to complain just tell the clerk that you would like to exchange the ratchet for a differn't one. They should reach under the counter and hand you a different one. If you don't like it ask if you can look at all of the rebuilt ones they have and pick the one you like the best.

If you have a dealer do it the Snap-on man will put a kit in you ratchet while you wait if the dealer has it in stock.

If you send it to the company they will send a new ratchet. So if you have a discontiuned model don't send it in unless you want a new style.
