Got a shed

Not mine, but for my use at work. Originally built as a waiting room for truck drivers, huge waste of money. Why sit in a shed when their trucks have AC/heat, radio, etc.. Now that I'm unloading they aren't on-site long enough to wait anyway.
I've taken it over as my break room, and pretty much have free reign with it, within reason. Already have the electrical crew into getting some juice ran to it. Have some paint ready for it. Scored an executive desk that was sitting around. Here's how it sits today.


Drywall and insulation may require some skilled bartering. We do have pallets galore, I'm considering lining the walls with pallet boards, give it a rustic cabin feel. Progress pics coming (soon I hope).

Yup, it's got dual sliding doors. I have some surround speakers sitting in my garage I'll bring in once I get power and find a cheap receiver. I also have a small AC unit (window mount type) stashed with my name on it.
I even told my boss that I'd like to order a couple small planters and get some shrubs. He thought I was joking, but said he'd get them if I'm serious.

I'm just a clock-puncher like the rest of the mindless drones, but I stay out of trouble. My boss encourages it, it makes him look good because his employee is taking initiative. Win win.

I do plan on having fun with it. I'll keep pushing the limit on what I can do till I finally get told "no way". All the guys are getting a kick out of the desk.

Offer refreshments and a place to sit, that's when I'm on shift. Note the chain and lock on the doors, that's for when I'm not there.

I was not joking at all, sorry if it sounded that way. What I meant was, it sounds like your boss respects you, I'm sure you have earned that. It really looks like a nice space and being able to do things like that makes going to work something to look forward to. Every time I see someone at work take initiative and improve things I make sure they understand that they are adding value to themselves, which makes them more valuable to the company.

Took a week off so not much progress. But the last couple days I got some paint laid down, still have to cut in some spots, and the window trim got missed, whoops. Another boss walked by, said she likes my initiative. ****, now they're going to expect this all the time.


Thinking about leaving inside all gray with a couple stripes mid-height. Maybe blue? Still bugging the head electrician about hooking me up.

And some stripes. Yes, believe it or not I used tape. Not that you can tell due to all the paint penetration. Cheap tape+rough wood=hack job. Oh well, I'm working with what's available here.

Thanks. Much like my garage, it not the best but it's far better than it was.
I think I forgot to mention I scored some of that expanding foam **** and sealed some of the bigger gaps before I painted.

That's really nice, and you must have a decent boss to let you take it over. A lot of guys would probably rather let it sit vacant than let someone make a usable space.

Progress, but nothing pic worthy. There's a nice little transformer that came in, with my name on it. Closest source of power is 460v, something like that. Hopefully I'll get it all wired up (with my little AC unit) just in time to beat the heat. Spoke with an electrician today about lighting and outlets, won't be fancy but it'll work.
Had some decent wind yesterday, I found that expanding foam **** isn't cut out for that. I'll hit up another dept to see about getting some proper caulking/sealant.
Still undecided on the floor. I have access to floor (concrete) epoxy. I think there will be too much flex in the wood for it to hold well. Paint? No, ain't going to work. Tile isn't totally out of the question, although it won't be laid properly it may go along with my "not good, but good enough" theme.

Still making progress, although slowly. That crappy expanding foam is gone, I sealed the hell out of it with caulk. I spread my caulk everywhere, stuck caulk in all the cracks I could see. Even jammed my caulk in some tight spots with my finger. Hehe, caulk.
Getting some wiring ran, have a 4' T8 fixture and some outlet boxes hung. Talked to my boss about the company's beloved "5S", Racedeck floor should be getting ordered today, yay! Pics to come shortly I hope.

Progress made so far, transformer and breaker box are in place, still need conduit ran to them then to the shed. Got the AC unit and frame made, waiting for power to cut the opening. Got another desk, painted it gray, still deciding what big *** decal to lay under the glass top. I'm thinking of just going with a Ford logo, it will be blue to match the stripe.

With all the different gray in here I was thinking of naming it the "50 shades of gray shed", but I don't really like that.
For now it's "Area 51". Everyone knows it's here and what's going on but everything is being done under the radar. Officially nothing is happening, it's just a shed.

Edit: just got off the phone with a local decal maker. I'll have a big Ford logo sticker waiting for me in a day or two. 40"x15".
