I bought this 3" wilton today as part of a larger estate of Machinest tools I bought. My plan is to resell this wilton. So I tried looking on ebay today in the completed listings and found one like it that sold for $280.00!?!??!

What makes Wiltons so expensive?

I think this one is older,but I don't know.

Any and all info is appreciated.

Thanks

Yep..that's an older made in Chicago Wilton. The manufacture date should be stamped in the metal strip in the bottom of the slider. You'd have to take the jaw out to see it.

Dang I'm stumped! Maybe the older ones didn't have a date stamp? Maybe worn off? I dunno but I'm sure one of the vise gurus will be along before much longer to give some insight.
Nice vise though!

Not all of the Wilton vises had date stamps on the keyway. I bought an older C1 and was excited to pull the jaw out to find the date stamp but it wasn't there. You can date the vise by its design features and the city of manufacture.

Schiller Park marked vises were from the late 1950s and on. The Chicago ones were from 1941 until 1956 or so. When Wilton moved, the name didn't change right away on the castings and they sold vises built in Chicago out of the Schiller park factory.

Yours might be from the early 1960s through the 1970s, before they introduced the Model 930 and then the 9300, the newest model numbers for 3" vises

Supply and demand, it is as simple as that. High demand for the supply available pushes the price upward to convince others maybe they should sell theirs too. At some point the amount of supply equals demand and so the price "equalizes" and tends to stay put. Microeconomics. :)

That design on the side is one of the older ones I think, like 1941 to 1946 maybe.
