Got my new box today...

Still transferring stuff and was busy with PDI's, so only the phone picture for now. Can't wait to fill it.

That is just plain sweet!!! Don't see many white boxes, in fact, I have seen just one in person and I am in a lot of shops every week. Maybe you will get lucky and score a Stainless top for it also at a reasonable price.

Yeaaaah I was never a fan of white either but holy snickerdoodles it's damn nice when you look at it for a while and fill it with tools.

You got that right. I got the Box repo'd, there's just one small ding in the side. Was about 50% of the original list price of $6100, it's a special edition KRL722.

Looking for a stainless or wood top. I'm thinking if I get a wood top, it might absorb the inevitable beating I'll probably put to it in my youthful naivety.

Agreed. Sadly, it's pretty well adhered to the front of the drawer, so I'll suffer with it until I get it off or cover it.

Try a heat gun to peel it off.

NSL. Whatever they stuck the decal on (it's like a painted metal adhered to the drawer front) it's tough stuff.

Tavy, don't be afraid of a stainless top. I buy and sell a fair amount of used boxes and the stainless seems to hold up far better then you would think.

Also saw a box with a 1/4 thick aluminum plate that looked great. Asked the guy and he said he bought a sheet and cut it with a worm drive circular saw with metal blade. To bring the shine back, he hit it with some 1000 grit sand paper and a little polish and it looked great. Now that won't get a mirror finish, but it would be bright. I'd try to find someone with a shear but it is a great idea.

Also saw a box on ebay that looked cool. I assume it was 3/4 plywood with black and white squares of vinyl stick on tile to look like a checkered flag. Border that with some aluminum angle and you have a unique top.

I was more afraid of the box getting dinged up as well as the top. If I manage to dent in the top, it'll just transfer to the box -- the wood ought to dampen it a bit, right?
I'm curious to which saves the box, the top seems sacrificial really..

I've been considering a sheet of aluminium stock or plywood with vinyl or kemlite on it. The plastic might help it not absorb all the gunk and oil. Kemlite over the butcher block tops sounds like a good idea to me.

Stainless top has 3/4 inch of particle board underneath of it, so you have something to absorb heavy blows. If you want something short term, plywood and put the rubber mat on top.
