Thanks to some feedback from a few guys here I decided on ordering a set of combo wrenches from Tekton. I sent Dave at Tekton an email with some questions on a Fri night and he emailed me the following Sat am. I gotta say the finish on these is nice. Got them on Amazon, 2 day delivery. The were packaged well and the holder is nice. You can lay it in the drawer and just pluck an individual wrench out, or take the whole set. Obviously I dont know performance yet but they are lifetime warranty...

I looked at kobalt and gearwrench and from a finish perspective the Tekton is way better. The gearwrench combos are really bad. I actually bought a set and returned them as many were so twisted and bent they were embarassing.

These are Taiwan made, yeah I know..........but the china stuff i looked at is just terrible and I dont need snap on. I have some older proto, allen, armstrong, gearwrench, and even some snap on and these compare nicely.

I plan to get the sae set and look to some other tools from them. If youre looking for a nice set of wrenches that are affordable and feel like you're getting something for your money check these out....

It is hard to tell from your pictures, how do the box ends look? Most of the Taiwan and China wrenches I come across have way too much chamfer on the box ends, especially on the smaller sized wrenches. When put on a bolt the box end only grabs the top half of the bolt head because of the chamfer, which makes it much more likely to round out if torqued. The Fully polished Taiwan Carlyle wrenches (with the open end flank drive plus-like notching) are pretty much the only exception that I have seen to that rule. They have zero chamfer on the box ends. It would be nice if these were well shaped also.

Just got mine as well. Seems like a good set thus far.

Carpeted wrench rack? You must have made that yourself? Interesting idea. I have to admit I have never seen that one before. I can think of a few applications where something like that might make for a really nice setup. Do you have any more pics or a simple explanation of the build process in another GJ thread somewhere?

It's foam

:lol_hitti That makes a lot more sense. I saw the slight foam fraying when looking at the large version of the picture and at first glance it looked like carpet fibers. I was wondering how he got all the edges and channels formed so tightly using carpet.:eyecrazy:

Correct, foam. They are the standard HF tray liners. I also made wrench racks from the Craftsman foam ($13 for 4 large strips which you cut to fit your drawer) which I will most likely use in place of the Tekton holders just cause I like the look of them......

Damn, just read that.......now that's funny right there. When I DO come up with a method to utilize carpet for a wrench rack you'll be the first to know!

No, they're Kaisen Foam, cut with the CNC.........

I'll say this, they certainly look nice. I'll be interested to try them out for myself. I think this is the direction that Tekton is headed, and it should be very good for them, and for us. The one thing I really like about the set pictured is the size run...NO SKIPPED SIZES! There's nothing more annoying than needing a size and not having it, or not having a way to complete the set. Just from photos this looks like a winner all the way around!

Jeremy V - here are a few pics of the box end. I'll let you be the judge of the chamfer...

Even though they're essentially a rebrander they are at least trying. I appreciate it and I'm probably not the only one.
