got my wright 3430 today

it took 6 days to get here no problems. anyway it is way smaller than it appears on the internet. Definitely a cool little ratchet.
the only problem is that the ratcheting mechanism seems to be a little wiggly in the head. if the spring clip wrapped around one more time i think it would correct this problem. anybody else notice this?

Alright, I'll be the first one to say it. We all know you cater more to the industrial crowd, but I know I speak for all of us when I say we would love noting more than for Wright to produce a long pattern combo wrench. Wright wrenches are some of the most comfortable and pleasing wrenches made, but are just a little too short for the automotive trade.

Just thought I'd throw that out there.

All the info is in there online catalog, under each ratchet there is a details link. Click it and it tells you the dimensions, pawl type and Number of teeth.

I have not had anyone wanting to retrofit a ratchet to make it a 3430 but I do know the ratchet head dia. is a little different between the 3430 and the 1/4" dr. 2426.....We will have to see what Ty says.

Just curious as I got the ratchet for free, from a member on here. I don't mind spending the money to get the other ones, but I also liked the fact that I could change them to be more of what I needed by getting a kit, like the snap on 936 t series, I converted 3-4 over to bit drivers and 3/8 in 1/4 bodys with a kit, pretty nice to save money and make the tools do what you need and gives me spare kits for my 1/4 models. Thanks for getting back to me, I really do think I will just get the 3430 and 3440, to try out for now.

First for me too! I will check when I get into the office in the morning. My gut feeling is that the head dims are going to be different, less bulk on the 1/4" drive 2426 since it is made for smaller sockets and less torque loads, therefor would not be reccommended for a 3/8" drive kit. I will let you all know tomorrow.

I don't have a concern, but the problem I have is, I have snapon and proto equivalents... And the mini wright tools that I was looking at are pretty expensive when I can get used snap on for less. But i think I will have to try the 3430 and 3440 when I get some more money in...

What do you mean? Someone needs to respond to his saying the mechanism is loose in the head? Is that what you are calling his "concern?"

I don't feel that on my version.

My 1/4 version is a little loose, and does have a problem where you have the hold the socket if you change the direction with it not on anything as it just spins the whole thing and doesn't change the direction otherwise.

I will concur that my Wright ratchets have the same issue on changing direction with a socket attached. I used my New ratchets most of the day and didnt once realize this until i read this post. If you have just a socket it does either take a quick change or a momentary touch of the socket or it will just spin. It doesnt appear this is a major deal as i stated i used it all day with no issues, When there is substantial weight on the ratchet via extension or bigger socket it works without fail. I dont know if this is because it is brand new or needs a little lubrication but i will monitor it. Just for curiosity i went and grabbed a Thorsen and a Bonney made John Deere ratchet, both these ratchets use similar Guts and the split ring fastener and they all had some back and forth movement and very.. very ... very little side to side. I dont forsee any of the above listed items causing any problems after 80 years in the business they must be doing something "Wright".

48548 do you have any other ratchets that utilize the split ring fastener? Check them to see if they have the movement. Report back...

I did not once have a problem today where i was in Neutral when i went to use my ratchet or while i was using it. I tried to center the selector in Neutral on a few ratchets and regardless of which way i turned it always slid over to a geared direction immediately. Im not saying its not possible but i was unable to make it happen with any of the ratchets.

fwiw, BRAND NEW Wright ratchets have this "issue" (the one 48458 has is brand new, for example). Brand new Hazets also have this "issue".
