Was that your son? Cute kid.....playing the part well.

The BMW's seem to be the bike of choice now.....though I have heard of one dept that might be going to Honda's....I believe it's a variation of the R1.

R1 would be a Yamaha. I did see some air under the front tire on the one motor cops bike.

The kid's a little more old school than the grown-ups - duty weapon is a 1911 instead of a Glock! ;)

Looked like a track to me.

Great photos, and great vehicles. The BMW is a very popular police bike!

I hope you have good band width on your site, because these will spread fast in the BMW community!

Thanks for sharing!

Being a motor myself there are the four standard types everyone is using now at least in Florida.

The BMW R1200RT-P (which I believe was in the picture)

The Honda ST1300

The Kawasaki Concourse 1300

The Harley in its various incarnations.

I wish Yamaha would make a cross plane R1 inspired bike! Haven't even seen an FJ package yet!

How in the hell did you pull off closing a four lane highway?

That's the new I-40 thru OKC. They've rerouted the highway further south of downtown nearer the river. That long overpass was just crumbling from overuse. He's in the new westbound lanes that haven't yet opened.

The highway is the new crosstown section of I40 going past downtown OKC. He was probably on the yet opened portion. It is a great stretch of road. Hard not to go above posted speed limit!!

Great pics and very nice car.

I'm not a 'motor', but I do ride and have friends who are (retired) 'motors' from San Jose.

The BMW is the bike of choice out here as well, but there are plenty of HDs out there still. I questioned why anybody would want such an underpowered/overweight pig of a bike for patrol. Was it just a 'buy American' thing or what? Then I rode one for a day and was surprised. Yeah, it's slow and isn't exactly confidence inspiring at speed, but it does carry it's weight pretty low and is surprisingly easy to maneuver at parking lot speeds. And they do spend a fair amount of time riding those things at little more than a walking pace.

As for the FJR, I've ridden those as well and found them a little top-heavy. Great power, and would make a good 'motor' for pursuits and freeway patrols but maybe not great for parade-duty work.

Kind of the same thing with the Honda and Kawi, though I haven't ridden the latest versions of either.

I will admit the HD does sound better than any of them though. :)

Great story. First thought I had was "Can't they afford full size cops there?". I'd love the ole' 37.
