got them for $43. now the problem, what to do with them?
wanting to build shelves in garage, but i think that this wood would be over kill. want to make a carport, but 2x8 for the ceiling sounds like over kill also.

Shed floor. Mezzanine in the garage. Rip them for 2*4. Tractor ramps. Workbench. Etc.

Let us know what you'll do with them. You could bring them to me and ill do something with them.

Funny you say ramps. That's what I made mine out of but pressure treated. My buddy had to come get them earlier or I would have forgot I had them.

ends up i was mistaken on the size... they are 12 footers!
would love to make a shed floor, but no money for the rest of the shed (though i have made plans and priced everything out). could make a shed roof!!! but won't have sides or a floor. this is where my carport idea came from

Stack for later sounds like a good idea. Depending on the size of your carport, I would think the 2x8s would be too much for a roof. 2x6 would be an ok size.

i'm thinking 2x8 would be too much for the roof, but what about a frame for the roof? still too much?
i could then save 11 of them

I have purchased various discount piles over the years and used them for all sorts of things. I view the current length, width and thickness of dimensional lumber as merely a suggestion. My table saw, bandsaw, planer and I make the final choice on what the material dimensions should be, which really expands what you can do with the materials.

For example, except for the arm rests, these were made entirely from a twisted pile of scrap PT 2x4's.

In your case, if you don't need the full width, rip them down and save the cut offs for another use.

If you space them at 16 inches, you get an 18'8'' carport. If you spread them to 2', you get 28'. Four 4x4, 4 14' 2x12, 11 sheets of plywood or OSB, and some roofing, misc. fasteners and hardware..

Could be good...

i did not see any issues. they were banded together. haven't unbanded yet.
not planning on making 2x4 out of them as i have no way of doing that (no table saw)

edit: was walking through in morning and didn't see them. when walking through later in day, saw them, so they were not out in elements more then the day, and no rain or anything like that

Probably a refused order they didnt want to restock. Lucky! Could use those to build our garage rafters.

A number of serious workbench tops would be my first choice.

I got around 30 of 16-17 foot long 2" x 6" boards (hemlock) from the neighbour at a bargain price. We used 16 to make made raised garden beds, and will be making a few more, but some of the boards are slated for workbenches.

Build a dog house... actually i did that at my old house. Our house was one of the first built on the street, so i got loads of wood, shingles, siding, everything. i took a couple weeks building it. maybe 5' high, had window, carpet, stairs, 2 floors. my chihuahua decided he wanted nothing to do with it. sold it at a garage sale for $10

briefly talked with wife about a carport. thinking of making it 24' long and 12' wide. possible? probably going with metal roof. would it be better to use 4x4 or 6x6 as the supports?
