Tramming the head manually with an indicator *****, so I picked up a pro-tram.. this is the best thing since sliced bread! I can get it trammed in a couple minutes now, without hassle

Also picked up a Kurt D688 vise.. got tired of the old beatup, sloppy bridgeport vise that I had.. it was a total piece of ****. This thing on the other hand, is :willy_nil

also picked up some new felt way wipers, some table and way covers, and a push-n-lube oiler

I got the pro tram direct from edge technologies on ebay for $99 +sh. If you haven't already, look it up on youtube.. shows how simple it is. Now that I have it, I can't imagine ever tramming something without one

Buy yourself one of the quick-release quill feed handles, and throw the stock Bridgeport one in the scrap bin. You won't know you lived without it. They are about $25 from Enco, and even Made In The USA!

That one doesn't take long to remove.. it just pops right out. The usa one does look nice though.. may just pick one up for the $25

you won't be sorry... you'll wonder how you lived without DRO

:+1: As much as I appreciate older technology, a DRO is a very slick accessory, can really help breath some life into a somewhat sloppy machine.

I just got a tingle in my bottom. For tramming the vise though, here's a quick and easy way to go:

http://tomstechniques.com/portfolio-items/indicate-the-vise-on-a-milling-machine-in-just-one-pass/

Funny you should post that.. I had already seen someone else showing that trick before I got the vise, so I got it trammed up real easy when I got home. I did end up finding his video on the same thing that night, so I subscribed on youtube for more tips and tricks. It really is a great way to tram a vise, though.. I'd never done it before, and I had it square in less than 5 mins.

I would love to have a three axis, can you post some pics of the installation as you get it done? I bought a program a couple of weeks ago, but I have not had a chance to use it yet. Thanks for sharing!

Yep, I'll get some pics and post em up. You'll love the protram once you use it! You should try tramming the head manually once, then knock it out of alignment, and do it with the protram to see how much easier it is

I'll post up a couple pics, but you can check the link in my sig for the entire garage build and tool pics, etc

Oh hahaha I missed the date. Haven't seen this thread for a while, so I thought it had been there for a bit.

I'll definitely be giving that thread a read when I have a chance!
