First up: I thought this was an old 20's-30's bottle socket when I picked it up with a half dozen other more conventional sockets. I didn't see the splines inside until I started cleaning it up...
Any clues what this is for? the hex is 3/4": id that makes any difference, and the interior major Diameter is about .850, and their is a "stop ring" about 3/8 of an inch inside.
The splines are NOT in a regular pattern, in fact a couple of the "splines", are wider than the others...:
