Holy ****! it doubled in price since I last looked. And it sold! OMG!!
How could wrenches come even close to being worth that?

I saw an old tool kit that GM offered for the Chevrolet's from about 1955 to about 1964 sell for $1000 on eBay a few years ago. I had a NOS GM, new in the original box fire extinguisher that was date coded 1967 that sold for $850 to a Corvette vendor. There is no accounting for what some people will pay for an item if they feel that they need it to complete a restoration. My friends told me that I was crazy when I paid $100 for the fire extinguisher at a flea market the summer before. I only wish that I could have found more of them...

"there is a difference" :)

I just figured it was a wild experiment in shill bidding.

I think I'll pick up the set if I see them at a yard sale. Yikes.

Most of the bids were placed by the same bidder. Sometimes 3-4 in a row. This has HOAX written all over it.

Hoax? No, he kept bidding because a previous bidder had submitted a higher bid before him.

If you look at the dates, the multiple bids were to bid past someone that had bid earlier. Like the three bids by bidder 4 and the first two by bidder 5 were to get past what bidder 3 had bid earlier. Likewise, bidder 7's bids were to get past bidder 6. Looks legit. Of course, bidder 8 came in and sniped it at the end.

BMW tools are typically 'Heyco' (also German of course), but maybe you have the rare BMW-Porsche cross-over tools? ;)

That auction reminds me of an auction my parents did a few years ago... My parents had just started thier ebay account and wanted to get rid of some stuff while makin a few bucks. They had a whole bunch of really old hand-woodworking (planers, etc) tools from my great-grandfather., in pretty good shape, with OG boxes and instrcutions. There were about 8-10 peices, we started each one between 25-50 bucks. NONE of them sold BELOW $650! One of the planers, I think it was sold for $1200 I think. It was serious business. One particular man bought 6 or 7 of them, he was crazy. He wouldn't give his real name and all this stuff, but who cares, he paid up. He purchased over 2g's worth. My parents almost crapped themsevles. Total profit was a little over $3000

Something told me they were worth more than what they went for too.

I'll have to see if my 'rents have any records just because I'm curious what brand, and price they all went for.

It's hard telling what something will bring on ebay when the demand is there.
I did a short stint as a subcontractor Dish Network Installer. I don't really like ladders or roofs, but it was pretty good money. The IRS tends to punish those who try to make their own way, so that was the end of that.

Anyhow, at some point in this fantasy, Dish came out with the "Dish 500", a single dish that received signals from two satellites. Since they had moved a bunch of channels around, most of their customers needed to upgrade to this dish to be able to receive all of their programming.
They offered a free upgrade kit, which included the new dish, and a little gizmo called a "SW21 switch". The SW21 enabled the receiver to choose between the two satellites to receive the chosen channel. Long story.

Anyway, each upgrade kit included two SW21s. Most customers had only one receiver and didn't want the extra switch, so it got thrown into the back of my truck. After the bed filled up with them, they would go into a box in the shed.
One day, long after my foolish attempt at self employment had been crushed by the government, I was cleaning out the shed and pulled out 3 or 4 boxes full of SW21 switches. I was carrying one toward the trash toter when I thought..."I wonder what these are going for on eBay?"

Well, it seemed that Dish had moved their Spanish programming to yet another satellite, and customers wanting the whole deal needed to erect an additional dish to get all the programming. this, of course required a SW21 switch. Dish, in their infinite marketing wisdom, had run out of stock during this crucial time.

They were selling like crazy on eBay. I ended up selling multiple lots of them, mostly to some dealer/installers in Puerto Rico. I made over $1,000 on three boxes of stuff that was headed for the dumpster.

Ya never know.

Tool people are all crazy. I stopped using E-Bay because it fed my craziness too much...but once upopn a time I was chasing Plomb stuff there, because I just like using realgood tools and needed to complete ragged sets. Naturally, there were a couple of heavy duty Plombers on there and I never got anything remotely worthwhile--and the highest probing I dared to do showed that these guys had no limits anywhere near my world. I finally got a beautiful complete 1/4" set by simply bidding way more than I should have seconds before closing, but that never worked again...the collectors just jacked it up right out of my ballpark.
Do some searching of Stanley planes if you want to see seious collectors...

I just received 5 different PLOMB WF sockets from an E-bay auction. Caught with about 5 min. left, total of under $15 including shipping.

I was at a household sale and the auctioneer started me with a $1 bid on a box of Ulrich blades of some sort. I brought them home and listed them. It turns out they are really expensive stainless blades for an industrial dicer. I sold 8 boxes of 25 blades for $75 a box. A year ago I started a valve seat grinder for $30 and got it. It sold for $475 plus freight on E-bay 4 days later.
