Very common now they will catch you if you put in something that was not done with a permit.

DOWN WITH THE MAN!

I wonder if anyone has ever fought permit laws in the courts. My hometown doesn't have permit laws yet, but it bothers me...I should be able to build anything I want without alerting anyone.

Death and Taxes

Our lake house is in a remote and un-zoned area but septic permits and building permits are required. Awhile back they used arial photo's to determine sq. footage for tax puposes. We got hit with a huge increase. We challenged it and won because heated sq ft is what was taxed. Almost 1/2 of our roof covers screened porches which is exempt. :see:

Where I live is zoned and they also require and use the permits to add to your sq. footage to increase your property tax since tax appraisals are only done every four years. One way or the other they're going to get their cut.

just paint a giant middle finger on your roof. Does anyone know whats the rules on owning the airspace above your house? just curious i assume you don't but i mean you must own some because your house goes upwards? Get that put in the contract when you buy and they really got nowhere to fly and photograph...or just coat your roof with mirrors and claim the extra sqft was a lense flare...i have way to many really bad ideas tonight

The city here uses the trash guys, water, and electric company (city owned) to report new buildings of decks, sheds, and shops. I have a buddy that works for the city electric and they get 20 bucks to rat you out if the permit is not there.

Yee-hawww:)
I just passed my final electrical inspection today. Had me worried, didn't find out until Saturday that the grounds in all the outlets had to be crimped now! Boy how time changes.

Now, on to the final, 'Final'!

PS did you know that if you have a bare concrete floor (read garage, basement, etc, and no, paint doesn't count!) that all circuits have to be GF protected?
