I am going to be painting my kitchen cabinets so I bought this unit to help get a smoother finish. Despite watching several youtube videos some questions I had were not answered. So, I have a few questions.

1) I will be giving the cabinets 2 coats of primer (Insl-X Stix) and 2 coats of paint (Benjamin Moore Advance). It requires a day between coats, or so I have heard. Am I going to have to clean up every day or can I just cover the gun and paint can with a plastic bag/tape?

2) If I can do the above should I just leave the unit turned on or does it matter. Once it is primed I would not think it would matter if the unit is off or on?

3) Should I thin the paint/primer. Everything says you do not need to thin paint but should I anyways, it would go further and may come out smoother?

I would hate to think I would have to prime and cleanup every day. Appreciate any help.

I own and use the X5 frequently. The gun tips clog (but also clear) easily enough when you're spraying. I've never risked letting them dry overnight. Plus, the strainer and pump could be funky depending on the overnight storage temperature. Cleaning isn't too much of an ordeal, so it's worth being sure you're good for the next day.

Regarding paint and stain, I've never had to thin anything much. Clogs happen more from volume over time than anything else. Stain can get wild though. Be sure you have a proper tip for stain. I think the one I use is a 313.

Have a unit. Clean the exterior only if used the next day, clean it very well. I always thin the paint a small amount, goes on more even, light coats, oil or latex. If the trigger is pulled the gun must be moving, just like painting a car. With oil base I thin with lacquer thinner, produces a fast drying harder coat. When finished with the job, carefully clean the interior and exterior of unit; with oil, I clean with paint thinner. Clean once with paint thinner, let a clean batch fill hose, let sit over night or more, fill again with thinner, leave that in the unit/hose on storage. Do not leave the unit on, once primed, basically only the pump itself will have air to remove. If used the next day, get some saran wrap and seal the intake tube and paint pot together.
