Looking at starting site prep this year for 40'x56'x14' "size isn't set but that's about all I have room for. Haven't shot grade yet but I'd like to bring it up closer to garage floor height and assume its at least 4' or better. Does anyone have any other options beside pouring footings and walls and fill inside walls? If possible I would like to set sonatube and wet set brackets and not have to mess with walls, but I'm unsure how to do so on such a grade.
- Here's some photos of site

Anyway thanks for all the advise and have a Happy Easter,

Being a little lower (grade), as long as you handle the water, I'd go with the lower starting point. It should not appear as imposing or huge in comparison to the house.
...but your on target with the sonotubes and a bunch of fill along with some tubes in the "field" and some grade beams for the slab if you're putting in a concrete floor.

It might be just me, but I’m not sure of what your asking.
I was asking how to build up grade for barn a significant amount such as 4'-5' without pouring footings and walls to achieve height. Initially just wanted it closer to being even with garage floor in one photo and build up the ground in between the two. That area between the 2 is my drive to behind house and property and then barn would start next to it. I really was worried about run off into barn from drive however if the consensus is to build close to current grade and mitigate water that makes things a lot easier.

I've done lots of footings and wall foundations, but haven't messed with grade beams or building up significant grade from original grade. I was more concerned about keeping fill in for floor and keeping from settling after adding concrete.

If that makes things any clearer let me know if not I may be just over thinking site. Either way thanks for all yours guys excellent info and advise

I just had my 40x60 built. Here in WV shale is used. I had at least 5’ closer to 6’ in my lowest corner. My excavator has been doing this here for 45+ years and this is how it is done here. You can check out my building thread.
