I just talked to Grainger Customer Service - that Price of $394.84 on the 230 V - is a MISTAKE - they are working to correct - it should be around $1100.00 - I couldn't talk them into honoring the on line price. The Customer Service Rep said -he's talked to a lot of customers about that... all he could say was "sorry for the error".

If any do come into the local stores - for "Will-Call" and you actually get out the door with one at that $395.84 price - RUN.... and let us know.

thanks,
Carl B.

I take it by doing this you are able to save on shipping? I ordered online shipping was $75. Will Call was not an option.

also, how many people are ordering as business or personal

Is the Miller 140 better than the Hobart 125?

Hobart Handler 125 MIG-Ready Welder

The stats look the same, but I'm not too familiar with welding. I've been looking to try out welding for a while now. I'm wondering if the Miller 180 is "too much" of a welder for a beginner. :headscrat

I had been been thinking about getting the Hobart 140 prior to seeing this Miller deal, but the 140 is around $500:

I was trying to order on-line - at the hyper-links listed. Having trouble with my account number {da} I pushed the "Need help-call me" button - and Customer Service called me.

After I got my account number straightened out - I told the Customer Service guy I wanted to order their item number 1TKC5 - - - and he said he's been on the phone for hours - that price is not valid. I told him several people said they had already ordered the item - he replied that then Grainger would be busy for a while notifying them of the error...

I only hope that people don't show up at the "Will Call" with four hundred bucks - only to find out that the price is closer to $1100.00.

I could have just gotten the wrong person - or the wrong info - maybe someone else should call Grainger - - hate to see someone's VISA/MC etc charged $1100.00 for an item that was advertised at $395.84...

I'm guessing that the 110 V unit is also an error..

I got a confirmation number and email that says that is what they are charging me. If not its going to be fun getting them to fix it.

I went to the store this morning and ordered it for will-call. I should get it in 8 business days.

I called Grainger locally and the guy worked hard to make sure it was a valid deal. He took my credit card number and gave me a confirmation number over the phone. It has now been over 7 hours and counting. . . .

It's still $395 on their web site......

Yes - It is after-all a major corporation - I'm sure it will take their "I T People" days to correct it:lol_hitti

Who knows - maybe some orders will slip out... but if they have your account number or VISA/MC etc - - they can always add the corrected amount to your accout... then you could simply return it... I'm guessing...

I'm starting to think I should have ordered it with the Overnight shipping option and paid the premium..

A couple of years back, Dell had a pricing error on a 50+ inch tv for like 100 bux, the only people that received one for that price were the ones that opted for pay alot of $$ for overnight shipping (still coming out ahead) and their orders left the warehouse before the mistake was caught...

The local stores look on their Computers - and they will see the same price on the same Grainger Item # - - so everything looks OK to them.

It is a big corporation - and it is possible that some orders will be filled - - I'll hope for the best for everyone.

I just couldn't get their Customer Service guy to take the order at that price - he seemed to be quite aware that it was in error - I do not doubt that the computer will take the order on-line at this point - - I just don't know what will happen down stream.

Are most of you ordering with a personal account? I feel like I have two hurdles to cross here, first getting an account validated that isn't a business account (for company I put "Personal"), and then after that, actually getting this deal to go through. A long shot, but my fingers are still crossed.

The 220v model shows a price of $1200 when you click the link
Still shows $395.84 for me on my desktop, but the mobile site has said $1181 all day. This made it suspicious earlier, and I still lean towards the price being an error, but hoping they ship some :)

I wouldn't have ordered as a personal account. I have some past experience ordering items but have used my name as an independent contractor/consultant so as not to interfere with their business-2-business dealings.

I can't honestly say what the guy on the phone typed into his computer . . . 8 hours and counting. :)

Do they check to see if you have a business or contractor license or anything if you put that? That's why I was worried about lying -- if they tried to verify it.

It depends on your state business license requirements. Here in Missouri an independent contractor, consultant, or anyone who does business as his/her own name is not required to be licensed as a business. EDIT: Primarily, if you use a business NAME ALIAS then you are required by law to have a business license. But I seriously doubt anyone will ask. City requirements would come in when you are inviting customers to an establishment. So in many cases no one is lying as long as you are at least telling them your true name. :)

(I am not a lawyer, but I slept at a Holiday Inn last night)

I have used all sorts of business names on forms before. I ordered the Miller 180 welder last night almost exactly an hour after T100 posted the deal. I did not have an account so I set one up under my favorite business name. I seriously doubt they will ask me to produce a business license when I go to will call to pick it up. I called after reading the mixed messages about the pricing. I still have my confirmation number and a very helpful customer service person notified me that my welder would be in on the 23rd. If it turns out that they want to charge me more than $431 (CA tax added) then they can keep it. I will post if I am notified of a correction.

They never asked me for a license or anything like that... When I went to pick up my items the first time they asked me what kind of business I had an I answered honestly (it is not my day job but a business nonetheless)... it had nothing to do with the HVAC supplies I was getting.

When I showed my EPA license the person said he would sell me R22 as well. They do not care what your business is.

Phone calls usually poison any deal like this, too bad it happened so fast.

I haven't ordered from Graingers in a LONG time, but it used to be they wanted a business check, but now credit cards are more common, so I might give them a try. They didn't stop me at the door last time I wandered in.

Thats what I was thinking after reading through this. Normally when I see an add like that I order next day delivery before the **** hits the fan.

Your still way ahead even if you think that you got boned on the shipping.

So it IS valid...

crazy how the answers are hit or miss. I still have my HH140 so if I get the 180, great. If not I can still make metal stick.

Ordered the 180 AND the 140 as backup. Will call with cash as a payment method. Have confirmation emails on both. Which would you get? Small home work but would like to do thin wall cromoly tubing and alum as well as usual steel.

I would avoid welding "cromoly tubing" if possible, unless you have confidence in your safety equipment. Chromium is poison in gas form.

And if you are referring to bicycles, no way, no how would I ever do that unless your insurance is paid up.

Never heard you shouldn't weld chromoly tubing? Tig is ideal from what I understand and it should be heat treated. But I'm not a pro welder.

I didn't mean to say chromoly tubing shouldn't be welded. I meant to say that chromium in gas form is poison. If your safety eq is up to par then go for it.

And the the liability of welding a bicycle frame is HUGE UNLESS you have welding certs and a lot of experience, otherwise, be prepared for a possible lawsuit when the weld breaks and the unfortunate person is going 30 or 40 mph.
