Grainger side box

I must admit sometimes I have really mixed feelings about Grainger.
Usually most of their stuff is way overpriced, but every now and then they come up with clearance items for ridiculously low price.

At my workplace I have a decent 26" tool trolley, but with my recent additions of tools it was simply becoming a little bit too small.

While browsing through Grainger webpage I found a nice 7 drawer side box for my tool trolley. The problem was it was about $450. Ouch...

But wait... the 5 drawer side box was on clearance...

So during lunch time I decided to stop by the local Grainger to order it. It appeard that they actually had one in the store. So out it went with me... for $59 after tax. :D

For this price I think even Harbor Freight side box doesn't come even close.

There were even drawer liners included.
The drawers actually have a mechanism that when you are closing the drawer an about 2 inches before is closes, it actually grabs the drawer an closes it on its own. So no worry for the drawers to open by themselves, even with the box unlocked.

Now for the question, since this is my firs side box.
There is only a lip on the top of the side box which fits perfectly on the side of my tool trolley. Also the instructions say that this is for hanging the side box from the trolley. No screws, no other fastening method. I'm a little worried that when I load it up, the lip won't hold everyhing.

My thought was to put some bolts on the bottom so they join the side box and the trolley. This would also hide them from view.

Any suggestions?

Matco supplied C-clamps with my side boxes to clamp the side box to the roll cab. Get a cheap 1" clamp rather than bolts. This way you don't make unsightly holes in either box. PS, the lip will hold.

The lip will hold it just fine. There should be home in the side box that line up with the handle holes on the main box. It's nice to put those in so the side box can't move back and forth on the lip.

Well... there aren't any handle holes on either side of the side box, even though the grainger product page clearly shows these holes on the picture. Maybe that's why it was on clearance

For now it is hanging by the lip and I'll make holes on the side box that match the handle holes on the trolley and bolt them both together.

I'm not that worried about lip not holding as some joker from maintenance somehow lifting the side box and put it on another identical box as a practical joke.

I also found production date on a label inside... 2013. No wonder it was on clearance :p

For that price, I would grab another one for the other side. Then make an angle iron base for all of them. That's what we do at work. Good looking box

I have to ask, do they have any more? I have been looking for a side box for a while

I must admit I didn't really ask...
But it probably wouldn't do you any good as this is south of the border (MX)

Grainger 32H899

Price in the link is in Mexican Pesos, which with current exchange rate is 59 USD.
Grainger US unfortunately simply lists this item as discontinued, but you might want to confirm.

So it must be the policy then that they send all discontinued stock to Mexico, see if they can sell it for regular price and when the storage fee gets too high, sell them for nearly nothing...

Recently they had one Proto 450 series, model number J456646-12RD (also discontinued) first lowered from $7200 to $1900 and it still didn't sell. Final price for it was $890. It was still in a box (pretty dusty box I might add). Unfortunately somebody beat me to it at the end...:dunno:

The only other offer they have at the moment is a 32H844 (57" blue Westward 10 drawer top chest) for $280.
Same thing applies to its black counterpart 32H843.
