He's not, or wasn't as I remember, but my dad gave me a square yesterday that was his fathers. He unfortunately tried to clean it up some but it is still pretty neat. I see that L H Kenyon is stamped into the wood in three places, not our family name. A quick Google search revealed nothing, is Kenyon the name of an old tool maker? The stamp appears too perfectly lined up and the same depth to be done by separate letters as would be used by someone to mark their own tools. My grandfather came to the states from Scotland, settled down in Chicago, my father was born in 1930, if that helps with time line. Any help identifying this would be appreciated.

I doubt that the letters refer to a manufacturer. Probably to a former owner of the tool...likely before your grandfather. I have some really old tools from my great grandfather, and even some from HIS father. But even some of them have other names in them, even though I got them directly from my great-grandmother after his death. Such tools as these used to be even more valuable per capita in the old days than they are now. So when a craftsman died or retired, the tools were often sold. And since they were valuable, they were often inscribed with the owner's initials.
