first pictures are below are of a snap on vs 1618 but more pictures to come of other finds... if anyone could date them for my and tell me if they're worth keeping I'd be very much abliged.
Thanks

My initial guess would be 50s to 60s era? Anyone confirm? I don't see any date codes on those wrenches; I do have a set of Snap-On flare nut wrenches, that are exactly the same design (no dates codes either)!

I have a couple of 4ways that have the same handle design. I am also curious on the time frame on when they were made, since there was no date code stamped into them....

I did not see a date code either, I do have one similar (heir lomb) that does have a date from late fifties if i recall correctly

usually the date code is located near the U.S.A or Snap-On impressions
usually look siliar to the oneson my attachments

Seems like they'd be worth keeping to me. If the rest are like that, I'd be using them:)

sorry maybe I should have re-worded it, they're worth keeping. but are they worth using in comparison with some newer stuff to retain as some sort of... shrine to him i guess. more pics in a minute of some elora, some superslim, an austin, some car-fit, williams, bedford, britool, gordon brenco, irimo, heyco, maku, some labled as "made in germany" some labled as "made in usa" and a couple of matador....

don't worry, I tend not to loose tools... thankfully. I was going to keep the imperial stuff for work, and the metric for at home. I rarely use imperial over here and when I do it's on older cars, so using older tools just makes it feel right... just waiting for photobucket to do it's thing and more pics will follow

I dunno if they're very old, there is 18 elora spanners in total with 3 spanners in the whole lot labled only with sizes and "made in germany", which i suspect will be elora as-well. alot of the eloras are labled as "elora no 102". (in the first picture, the entire right hand side other than the snap-on at the bottom is Elora).
The car-fits there are two of, both with "made in germany" stamped on them. There are three britool spanners, all of which are still looking quite shiny and almost unused, although the 10mm off-set end on one does look quite abused.
there is a garrinston kestrel, very tired looking thing.
I have two old matadors, one MUCH worse than the other...
Also two spanners just labled as "made in USA", which look exactly the same bar size (any help? in the picture with the matador & irimo).
Also one irimo, made in italy, could be a piece of cr*p but I really don't have a clue.
A Maku? again, no idea... tell me more.
A brenco, looks like a nice bit of kit with minimal signs of wear at the fasterner ends.
An austin, which I guess was originally from an old austin's tools kit...
two random "superslim"s... one looks very mickey mouse and cheap, the other actually has a nice feel to it, again any help?
and the heyco... just one random one, bit rusty but probably very servicable after an all mighty clean.
Any help on any would be fantastic..

Are you from the UK? Those wrenches are screaming for some Evaporust! :)
http://www.evapo-rust.com/

I've been dipping tools bought this weekend in Evaporust!! Picked up a 1/4 cornwell ratchet for $1.00 and it was locked up and rusted bad and after an hour it is working fine and does not look half bad!! Wish I had taken a before pic now!!

I like the Austin wrench... Austin Healy I assume???
we either that or an older austin, I've got some work to do on a healy thats been turned into a spint car next week, so I'll see if it actually fits any of the bolts on it... It seems much older than the rest though, just the feel of it and the pitting etc..
I've also got and OLD PB Swiss screwdriver by the looks of it that I managed to leave there... got to pick that up next time I'm there...

as a general term, mate isn't used unless you know them.
blokes is, as is "fellas", but then this changes with generations, I'm quite young, if I walk into the parents place and go "you alright fella" to my dad I'd get a black eye, but if I said it down the pub to one of my friends.. that would be different.
And as for being "too ****** proper".... pfff, we're on the internet, half of which is naked women... I wouldn't worry about being proper :D

They're your Grandfather's wrenches - of course they're worth keeping!
I have a very old wizard combination wrench and a very old ampco combination wrench that were always in the old alumacraft boat when my grandfather taught me to fish about 45 years ago. They are now stored in my Stratos boat now. They have no monetary value but will never be disposed of by me. I would definitely keep the wrenches in question.

I bought a set of 30 degree / 60 degree openend wrenches in about 1979 that have that same hour-glass cross section. I have no idea when the started selling that style, but soon after I bought the 30/60 set they changed to a smooth side flank side. I really like the hour-glass style because you can hold onto them when their are oily.

I've been sitting some of the rustier in some rustremover overnight but no luck as of yet. I've decided that I'll put some of them into use, the others will be used as decorative ornaments... pics soon.

I have some of my grandpa's line wrenches that have a similar style handle, but don't know the age of them either. Similar to the one pictured below, RXH series. I'm guessing 1970's.

Once thing I noticed on mine (snapon flare nut wrenches), the hour glass style; a couple of them say "not guaranteed" on them.... I wonder if they are military issue or a gov't contract or something? I'll have to look at the part # but I think they are normal Snap-On part #'s. Anyone else have some that say "not guaranteed" on them? Just curios if I am not alone in this!
