Power kraft was the line from Montgomery Wards.
When my Grandfather passed away, I inherited his tools since my uncles didn't want them. All those years I never new he had a ton of vintage Craftsman, and Snap on tools. He was a machinist and had an old SK machinist tool box. It's pretty cool to see some of those vintage tools. The Craftsman were of very good quality.

If you can, sand blast the box to remove the rust before painting it. If you've never done t I would recommend having someone who has do the blasting for you. I don't want you to warp the box accidentally.

I say give it a good cleaning with some simple green and a course sponge to get the grease off. Otherwise leave it alone. Don't wreck the patina with sandpiper. Just my .02.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. I was in the same boat 10 years ago. Grandpaw passed & I got all his tools. Some of his tools belonged to my great-grandfather, a man who was long gone decades before I was born. I feel I have a connection through the tools. Many are from the 30's & 40's.

PowerKraft is good stuff in my book. I believe they were made by Thorson, among others.

I have some of my grandfather's tools for a memory too,my mom's side of the family. Some of the tools he made himself with his name and the date stamped when the tool was made.He always stamped everything he made.I never got to meet my grandfather on my father's side of the family, passed away from a heart attack at age 39 and my father was 13 at the time when this happened.
