Looking for a good acid stain in a gray / graphite color.

I just had my floor poured in a newly built 30x44 barn, originally I was just going to seal the concrete but the guys that did it said they would stain it for me and seal it If I get the materials.

I was looking at eagle acid stain in graphite color but reading reviews looks like some people get a more brown color.

Does anyone have recommendations for a gray acid stain?

Also what kind of sealer should I go with

Hope one of the vendors jump in. My experience is with acid stain. I used four different colors sprayed in a random fashion in 2700 square feet of concrete. Acid stains work with minerals in the concrete to produce color. That being said in my own barn some colors reacted better than others. I have a green in the mix. A couple spots show green really well. But if you look at the right angle you can see green in the entire slab. This will help explain the inconsistencies in results. The vendors here also carry a water based stain, that may be more appropriate for your color. I would expect a more even coating process with color take up. Water based I understand doesn’t need to react with the minerals. Good luck, I’m sure there is a product that will give you the results you want.

Is the durability better w acid vs water? Or does the sealer matter more?

And speaking of sealer, with this being a barn should I use outdoor sealer?

How slick does poly make the floors? Little pricier than what I was looking for, is there a good sealer that is more of a matte finish not so slick?

Sorry fir my ignorance I think I need to do some more research, all Ive done before was epoxy or regular water based sealer on the driveway

Thanks! the SEC Sealer and Delta Dye looks like what I need.

One more question, can I use this combo on an outdoor covered patio that is about 5 years old? I figured Ill have left over and can do both. Does the outdoor patio need any special prep work?

Probably want to change to HD6600-MMA or HD6500 EXT, these are outdoor sealers and are breathable.

If broom-texture, a good rotary pressure wash, if smooth-texture then etch it.

Thanks.

So I finished my back patio. Didnt turn out exactly how I was thinking but I like it. This was my first attempt at any concrete staining and now have the hang of it, barn is next and I think it will turn out better. Still much better than before and pictures for some reason dont look as good as in person.

Here is before

Big difference! It really looks good. Experience can make a difference with stains and coatings. Your barn should look even better yet.

I have a brand new 1500 sqft fiberglass reinforced concrete floor. Hard troweled to medium slick finish. I want to stain it with multiple colors for an artsy look, then seal to semi gloss OR polish to high gloss with lithium silicate densifier. Has anyone experience with acid or acetone stains on unprepped brand new concrete? If some prep is required, what is the minimum? Etching? Grinding? Beating my head against it? after neutralizing acids please recommend if I can simply seal and apply a semigloss topcoat or if additional steps are needed. And recommend some products? Thanks!

The first thing to determine is how you plan to use this space. This helps to determine the type of clear sealer to apply in order to meet those needs. If you want to polish the concrete, then the staining process is introduced midway through the polishing process. Keep in mind that you may experience fuzz in the finish due to the fibers in the concrete. If the concrete is acid stained and properly neutralized, most clear coats can be applied directly to the concrete afterwards.

I suggest reading the article below to get a better idea of the different types of stains and methods for color-staining concrete.

I know this is a few months late, but barn turned out great. Much better than expected. Interior finishing has been a slow process I am just now getting walls finished so once I get it all cleaned up will post new pics. I am actually going to put a few coats of wax over it once it is all done.
