We’ve got a gravel floor pole barn. Can’t justify paving right now, but want to do serious work on some classic cars.

Any clever suggestions on to how to make it more comfortable and useable for car repair?

Get some PT 2x6 and "embed" them into the gravel, 16" O.C., so that they are level with the grade. Attach PT 3/4" plywood. You will be surprised at what a good floor this makes !

How good do you want it. Cheapest quickest throw down some used carpet. Better as mentioned above treated wood sleepers and plywood. After that you start getting into concrete and more money.

Rubber interlocking mats like the horse stall kinds are great for kneeling or laying on. They can be moved and also cleaned. It's what I use even on my concrete floor garage.

Concur, but compact the gravel first. If it is very coarse gravel, you might want to add a layer of "stone dust".
