I acquired this old Gray ratchet a while back and it only works in forward, not reverse. I took it apart and a couple of ratch teeth are chipped. Also the pawl for the reverse is chipped.

I had contacted Gray about a rebuild kit but they said this has been out of production since the 1950’s and couldn’t help. Has anyone either found compatible replacement parts?

Alternatively, has anyone ever tried to rebuild the existing parts in a ratchet with, for example, JB Weld?

I like the wrench and would like to try to save it.

I would say possibly a Bonney Zenel 4097 is the same. There's one for sale on ebay for like $21 or so. You'd have to grind the rivets off of the 4097 tho if that ends up being the same ratchet.

Thanks. I don’t think it would bother to cut up a good ratchet to fix this.

I might look at having a small weld done and then recut the teeth.

If you measure the gear and the pawl I’ll measure a newer ratchet. The guts all look the same

Thanks. I just measured it and it look like the gear is 1-3/16” the inner ring is 7/8” and the pawl is 11/16. I didn’t knock the pawl out yet.

I think a newer one will work. This ratchet has a higher tooth count but the diameter looks the same. The pawl is different though. Get one with the same tooth count and i think you’ll be fine
