Yesterday I picked up this ratchet. Its a Gray Canada 1697, made in 1979. It needs the internals replaced as it's worn from the 46 YEARS of work. I reached out to their customer service and they're sending me out a repair kit no charge. A 46 YEAR OLD TOOL, STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY NO QUESTIONS ASKED IS AMAZING!

Attached pics of tool and e-mails.

I'm very happy! :)

Anyone else have experience with Gray or collect their tools?

I have an older 3/8 ratchet that was my dad's. I contacted Gray about getting a repair kit which
I would even pay for. They said the ratchet was discontinued and that was it. I am sure it isn't worthwhile fixing because it probably has a low tooth count.
I am a fan of Gray but I won't be buying any new ones.

I have a bunch of gray tools, their orange handle 1/2 ratchet. I have shallow and deep metric and sae 3/8 impact socket sets, some 1/4 wobble extensions and various wrenches from over the years.
I have not needed warranty, but I like their stuff. Their new impact sockets are similar to snap on with the broaching and the finish.

try contacting the customer service via email directly, skip the warranty form thats what I did. I just asked if there was a compatible repair kit and they just offered to warranty it!

I have the long handle variation of that ratchet, and I think the regular too. I like them, not as easy to source here. Zoro has some selection of Gray.

America's hat.
Gray makes high quality made in Canada goodness.

have a flex head 1/2" drive ratchet from them, all be it a bit low on the tooth count (45 compared to other brands 80 / 90) and it does sometimes make the removal of fasteners a bit cumbersome in tighter areas. food for thought. But man.... it's a nice piece.

We use their 3/4" drive impact sockets here at work specifically. Never once had a failure. and this is with people who believe tighter is better and will sit on the impact guns for 20-30 seconds all day every day.

I’ve had two excellent warranty experiences with Gray Tools in the last 5 years, by phone and email. Cheryl is a pleasant woman.
Sadly, they pulled out of the USA market many years ago. A local industrial supply house I do business with had tool boards stocking the full hardline. It was also used on some of the jobs I was involved with. High quality Canadian goodness as badmatt said above. Being NLA domestically, Gray mailed my items across the border on their dime. The first one had a handwritten note of thanks from the CEO and he personally wrote the addresses on the package including his name.
Both cases were handled professionally and promptly, customer service was a joy to speak with, and they solved the issues.
Also kudos to my supply house who offered to warranty the Gray item for a similar Wright item since that is the brand they started carrying after the loss.
