Used? I don't know who makes those vises (or where - but if it doesn't say, it's not a good sign), but I'd never pay $60 for it used locally.

We may be a bit spoiled around the GTA, but you can regularly find a used Record 4" for ~$25 off kijiji or craigslist...

I'm pretty sure they're the newer Irwin records. Saw one last week at a local supplier. Looks just like the Irwin ones sold at home depot to me. Still a pretty decent vise if you can get it new for $60 IMHO. Personally though, I'd shop around for a used record if that's the style youre after. I got a 6" record last year for $50 or $60 off of kijiji.

If the COO is not in the metal of the vise and its made today it is Chinese. If it is older and it is not in the metal it may be Japanese or Chinese depending on age. The older Japanese stuff is not usually as good as US, but in MHO is way better than the average Chinese one.

I would never buy a used Chinese vise. I also would never buy a new vise. I would not ever buy a Chinese vise. But thats just me.

I found some information on the internet that could indicate that Gray Tools vises would be imported from Argentina.

http://www.tradeinfo365.com/NorthAmerica/GRAY-TOOLS-CANADA-INC.html

SkyMaster - I now crown you the "Master" of all things Gray!

I always want to know if and when Gray tools are made elsewhere. USA and Germany are usually stamped on their tools made in those countries (if not Canada), but most other Gray tools not marked, we will never know.

Even when I call them direct, they sometimes don't know where specific tools are made.

Thank you SkyMaster, and your new task is to find out where every single NON-Canadian made Gray tool is actually made. Update us when you've completed this task.

...they sometimes won't tell us where specific tools are made.

I think the above is more the case.

Cool find on the vises - it certainly establishes a link - but I can't get the sizes and weights of the models to match...? :dunno:

EDIT: No wait, the Gray website has weights that match (even though the printed catalogue does not). Looks like we have a match after all!
