About 10 years ago I asked Gray Tools about their USA distribution, looking for something specific, and eventually gave up.

4 years ago, they emailed and said they're opening up new USA distribution channels. I took a look, but it didn't hold my attention.

They DMed me on social media today, in what seems like a big new marketing push.

I've looked at the brand a few times over the years, but I have zero idea as to what might be special about them. Are there any standouts that I should look at? :dunno:

Correction: I just spoke to them, and they're mainly looking to expand their Dynamic Tools brand, although they're also selling a bunch of Gray Tools (pliers, punches, wrenches) that I haven't seen available here before.

Has anyone here tried their Dynamic Tools products? It seems to be similar to Proto Blackhawk and other brands' more value-focused industrial offerings.

We use their heavy duty jack stands and forklift scissor jacks at work and they are top notch. Very good support after the sale as well. We had one of the scissor jacks begin to leak after about 10 years and we were able to quickly obtain a seal kit from them for the jack. Resealed it and it was as good as new.

Thanks!

I’ve never heard of Gray Tools and never seen them anywhere.

Got dynamic at work , nothing special honestly . Being Canadian , grew up with the brand . Their Maple Leaf line is older cheaper rough finish . Good tools but living out west they dot seem really too bothered to sell and support out here . Not cheap either . Years ago tried to warranty some things and told no , sol, so stopped supporting the brand before they basically left the west . I have beat on them and they are quality , Gray that is . Dynamic , meh .

I emailed them to replace a horribly off center 15mm socket and they never replied back. I've heard that their warranty is hit or miss as well.

So a Canadian Company is trying to sell Taiwanese tools in the USA,
A country already flooded with Taiwanese tools, from major US based companies? :dunno:

Did they redesign the tools do they have different features from the other Taiwanese tool brands?

I can literaly walk to a local Pep Boys and buy Taiwanese tools.

Two completely different companies. The Gray you speak up is an American made jack, jackstand and other forms of lifting or support devices. Gray tools of Canada is Canada's top of the line tool company, to my knowledge on par with Proto.

I've got some of their combination wrenches and sockets. They are decent, IMHO and are on par with Gearwrench and Tekton. The reason I got them was Amazon had them for crazy cheap prices at the time. When I checked on the Dynamic name, people mostly agreed that Dynamic was the Blue point brand for Gray tools.

I have a set of Grey Pneumatic 8-point impact sockets. These are a must have working on old farm equipment and structures with lag bolts. Nice tools. I think I got them from Amazon.

Gray tools of Canada is a completely different company than Grey Pneumatic.

Got a model number or anything for those? As someone who wrenches on old junk that sounds very appealing

From what I'm told, they specify the tools towards needs of heavier duty users, more industrial-focused as opposed to consumer and mid-level automotive users.

They seem to be aiming more for Proto Blackhawk and Wright Cougar quality than say Gearwrench.

I didn't know that either - thanks!

Is this the brand we are talking about?

I have a few Gray tools, including a torque wrench. I've never had an issue with it. But I think the most special thing about them is the price! A few years ago I bought a large socket (55mm 12pt) so I could remove the rear wheel on my Ducati. Gray was the only brand I could find.

As a Canadian working on industrial machines, Gray tools are pretty common for me. They are more oriented towards industrial customers. The tools are rugged and built to handle the neglect of being used by people who do not pay for them. The ratchets are coarse but that usually doesn't matter on industrial work. I know the strength of coarse vs fine is up for debate but I'd imagine coarse tooth ratchets will cope better with being run in dirty environments and never getting cleaned or lubed.
Their spud bars (pry bars with a pointed end to align bolt holes) are a staple of industry in my area. Every one uses them.

Hopefully you can get your hands on them. I for one like them. And the fact they are made in Canada

I've had Gray tools for more than 50 years. Socket sets, impact sockets, torque wrenches, a variety of hand tools, etc. They have been a 'go to' tool company here in Canada for industrial purchasers for as long as I can remember. Their line is not as refined, expansive or specialized as their competitors but nobody questions their durability.
I never seen any while working in the US or have no knowledge of anything from Gray made in Taiwan but I don't get out much anymore and my stuff is old.
