So I was rummaging through some of my Grandpa's toolboxes tonight and found some Gray Tools wrenches... I did a quick search and found out that they are made by a Gray Tools of Brampton Ontario and are still in business.

Anyone know anything about them? Are they decent tools? I did a search on the forum and didn't turn up too much.

Also found some old Craftsman sockets (1 1/2, 1 5/8 etc... cool :) ) and some Meteor wrenches as well.

Gray is top shelf.Priced as high or higher sometimes as Snap on.They have been around since 1912 and partnered with Bonney for many years.Their ratchets are on the coarse side but are the kind of rugged design that you can use out in a mudhole repairing a piece of equipment. They'll get full of mud and crud and keep on working.Recently they've started an import line called Dynamic Tools which looks to be on par with all the other import stuff on the market recently.

Good stuff...........and Canadian. Here are some of my Gray treasures:

The first group is their "Maple Leaf" series and came with no guarantee, and much cheaper than the regular set (except for that wrench second from bottom.)

Last group were later purchases.

My Maple Leafs were purchased in 1961 while working in an automotive machine shop in Edmonton (now Acklands) They also had a tool store built onto that facility when it was built new around '58.

My Gray tools 3/4" dr ratchet.Hands down the toughest 3/4" dr I've ever used. They came with an optional 48" handle.I've used this one for years in the heavy equipmen/forestry industry and it's a beast.I once had a 7' cheater pipe on this thing with two 200lb men pulling on it doing a set of 8 mounting bolts.Never skipped once.

Gray hard handle 1/2"dr next to my Snappy 80 series hard handles.

I love Gray tools . There are a little pricey but are well built . The ratchets are rough ( I think my 3/8 dr. has 20 teeth ) and their sockets will never die . I'm slowing filling up my tool box with them . Enjoy them Greg-nwo

In Thunder Bay? For sure you can. There's a distributor locator on their site, and it shows plenty of local distributors.

Here's a pic of the wrenches and a Snap-on wrench I also found at the bottom of the tool box.

I have lots of Gray wrenches, prybars etc, lovely tools.

NOT to be confused with grey air tools, impact sockets.

I believe Fastenal sells them?

Gray stuff is okay, but very expensive for industrial grade. Wrenchs are almost 2x what wrights go for on Amazon.

I love my Gray stuff, some passed down, some purchased. In fact, I'd have nothing but if it weren't so expensive...

My Dad treasured his Gray Tools, which I now have. I have bought plenty more Made in Canada Gray Tools over the years. They never seemed to fail unlike so many other tools I have bought so I have stuck with them. I also bought their tool cases because the quality was so high.

I was restoring a car with a friend of mine who had an old (30+ years) Gray 6" extension which he had put a hammer on it to get the socket on an old nut. Slight damage, took it to Gray and they gave me a new one - no questions asked.

For those in the US...the low Canadian dollar may make these quite reasonable, particularly when you check their many monthly specials.

I have been sorting through hundreds, if not thousands of tools and I am finding a bunch of GRAY Canada Made tools. I would like them to go to a good home. I need to reduce the amount of stuff in my shop.
I found a GRAY 3/8" socket and ratchet set still in the original metal box.

Correct. Gray air tools incorporates that fact in their company name, Gray Pneumatic or GP.
