Been shopping for a part washer and had been leaning toward getting one at HF because of the price. I wont use it a ton, but want something that is there when I need it. I came across this Graymills Clean-O-Matic for $75, which from what I can find it a smoking deal assuming it works!

All I know is the size is approx. 44" width, 38" height, and 22" depth, which is the same size as the Clean-O-Matic 300-A and 500-A

I'm worried it might be too big for my shop (since i wont be using it all the time) but then again, its not too much bigger then the HF unit which is 30-3/4” W x 35-3/4” H x 21-1/4” depth.

Anyone know what model it might be, and if its worth it? Thoughts?

If I recall the difference in the 300 and 500 is the motor and pump. The 500 has a 1/3hp motor and flex tube, hose and nozzle, and spray "rake" in the lower back.

The 500 has a selector valve just below the filter bowl. It is a iron spool in a iron body. Sure could stand to be a synthetic valve spool, as they will rust together. I stripped the motor pump, etc from mine and disassembled every piece, and replaced some parts and blasted and painted everything. The valve, I had to drill the spool and thread it and put a bolt in it and use a puller to get the spool out of the valve after months of soaking in all kinds of penetrant. Then I blasted the valve body and bought a new spool and snap ring from Graymills. I used a stuff called Fuellube to grease the spool and it is stiff to turn but the grease is not washed out by the solvent. Clean out the bottom and it will take at least 20 gallons of solvent to get the level high enough to work properly. They will hold up to 44 gals if I recall. (thats about $200 to $250 worth of solvent).

The model 300 does not have the selector valve and spray "rake" and has a smaller pump motor, something like 1/8hp.

Graymills 300A parts list.

Graymills 500A parts list.

I have never used the spray "rake" in the time I've had it.

I bought mine from a neighbor, it was in sad condition, he did not need it, too old to work in a shop and I gave him $300 for it just so I didn't feel like I cheated him.

Buy it while you can if is it not already sold.

I don't know which model mine is...but mine looks much like the one pictured. Mine was given to me from a friend that no longer needed it.

It is a huge help when needed and a ton better than the HF units. From my understanding the HF units have to use water based cleaners that (in my opinion) don't work.

I like the wide tanks of the better washers, can put a set of heads in them or even an automatic transmission if needed. I moved the shelf up an inch so the pallet jack goes under to move it.

The Graymills are the finest solvent tanks around, the only down side as mentioned is they need a lot of solvent. I have one but it is in storage because it just take too much space in my small garage. I have always used Stoddard solvent and have not had issues with rust but the climate here is very dry.

The Graymills solvent, Super Agitene, is rather $$$ 80.70 for 5 gallons. I use the spray bar in mine quite often I like it to at least try to self clean the parts. I got my washer new in the box for $600.00 and I really like it too, it does need a weather stripping around the lid to cut down loss of the solvent by evaporation...

Ive gotten a 300a myself. I'm wondering if you could send me some detail photos of how your plumbing is from the spray bar up. I think someone tried to use compressed air for the spray bar on mine. Also, how many gallons did you need for it to work fine? Site said 16-45 gallons. I plan on using Psc 1000 from tractor supply.

Would it be ok to use water to test the system and tank for leaks, then drain before using expensive solvent fluid?

This one appears to be from 1993 as it was written on the lid, serviced in 93, next service 9477f08294ae00da6cb9a4339554081655.jpg13666178f6948427adabd90ebc771823.jpgeb33ab8d6e79813e0f1186661b21b693.jpg99ac94996709ea1ec6ce6d9ad00c3412.jpg1448bc5896fa9b46f2b80089229f76ba.jpg8cac9b5f30278eddba083af8d4789581.jpg93cc7566367763a097e235554561a7ee.jpg

I just got a 900 off of Craigslist. This thing was so nasty. No rust though. Someone added a Zep filter to it. I may keep that in line with the flex hose.
