Lots of possibilities here....
1st answer would also be my first guess - try to blead out any air.
Next, sometimes the little tab at the plunger will get stuck. Try pushing it and pull the plunger back.

Yes, probably air... Unscrew the top cap just a smidge to make sure you push the bottom handle in all the way and wiggle around a little to make sure the plunger made it past the cardboard lip of the grease tube. Then tighten down top and squeeze trigger a bunch to get the remaining air out...

... you have to tear the foil off the top of the tube before you put it in...

^ I just had my own personal "doah" moment with this last weekend.

I've heard that they don't like you either.

You heard right. Greasing my lift today and got half done and ended up with air pocket in tube. I don't think I've ever used a full tube of grease without having a problem getting all the grease out of it.
OP, don't give up on it.

Store all grease cartridges with the end indicated up (they will have usually have an arrow). Also, store all grease guns vertical NOT laying down. If you do these two things you will have virtually no trouble with grease guns.

Now to your issue, make sure that both ends of the tube are open before placing in the gun. When putting the top of the grease gun on leave it slightly loose (to allow air out). Then pump gun until grease flows. If grease still does not come out, pull the plunger rod all the way out and turn the rod 1/4 of a turn in either direction, this should engage a tang on the rod against the bottom of the plunger. then put pressure on the rod while pumping this forces the grease up and the air out.

OK...finally got it to work! I think that it may have simply been the fact that I'm old and lack hand strength. Used both hands to pump up pressure and finally worked. Thanks for the input.

Those junk chinese grease guns are nothing but trouble,, I usually end up loosing 1/2 the tube installing them,, and on top of that sliced fingers, and I don't need any wise cracks, obviously I don't know how to load them properly nor do I want to know how. Does anyone know if they make a disposable grease gun?
My grandpa worked at Standard oil, and he use to have one of those grease guns that sat on a 5gal pail of grease... Man I wish I had that baby
