I know this isn't real high tech, but what is the best route to go for a grease gun. I have a Lincoln hand pump unit, but it seems like I get more grease coming out around the nozzle instead of going into the zerk. It works much better if a second person holds the grease fitting tightly onto the zerk. I though about an air operated gun but then you have the air hose to drag around. Maybe I need to replace the grease hose with a better quality one, but there doesn't seem to be much to choose from. I am using the grease on an old car and couple of tractors. The zerks are not plugged up. Any ideas? Maybe I am being too picky, but I am tired of the mess.

We have been very happy with the Lincoln Powerluber battery powered grease guns. They use NiMH batteries just like any cordless power tool. One hand to hold the hose tip on the zerk, and one to squeeze the trigger. The kit comes with the gun, charger and 2 batteries. Ours is the 12 volt. but they now make a 14.4. You're right, this isn't high tech, but neither is a combination wrench or ratchet, and they garner a pretty fair amount of discussion on here. Thats what this is all about.
I have a Ingersoll Rand air grease gun and a Harbor Freight air grease gun; neither one see's much use but they both work fine ...

Thats what i was gonna say too. The lincoln work fine for me although the couplers seem to wear out fairly quickly

buy a pneumatic or an electrical gun and use the other hand to hold the coupler snug
be sure you have a rubber whip hose

It might also be a worn grease zerk but more than likely the coupler. Asw far as grease guns I prefer the pistol grip over the lever grease guns because it allows you to hold the hose with one hand and pump with the other. I highly recommend the Lincoln battery operated grease gun.

After awhile, you will get used to it, if he sticks around long enough! He hasn't been hangin around here much lately. The one thing I can say about Elroy is he is fairly shop savvy and has shared some good shop tips. He might even teach you a thing or two if you can get past his third person schtick

Oh, and I have a HF pistol grip grease gun and - I'm going to get flamed for this - it works better than my older Lincoln. It is one of the few things from HF that actually worked better than expected for me....

Have a Craftsman pro air grease gun that works great. Been wanting to try one of the battery operated grease guns for awhile. Either way it sure beats manually pumping one all the time.

Get yourself a pistol grip grease gun. Don't bother with the lever type. You wouldn't believe the dances I see people doing trying to use those contraptions. Using one hand to hold the hose, the other to push the lever, and putting the body of the grease gun against themselves and they still manage to get more grease around the fitting than in it.
Again, get yourself a quality pistol grip grease gun, and live happily ever after.

Lever guns are for farm equipment or similar industrial equipment where they are very efficient and you can usually use a metal tube instead of a hose since the zerks are usually fairly accessable. Pistol type ones are for automotive use. Trying to grease a machine that is full of zerk can be a real pain with a pistol one. Air works best for both.

I've been lucky. I have a $10 lever gun and flex hose from Advance or Autozone(can't remember which) and it works fine. I would prefer a pistol grip though.

I have been very happy with it, has real good pressure, and has saved me many a hand cramps over the pistol grip gun I was using before hand.
I was pretty sceptical about the battery grease guns, and wasn't willing to shell out $200 for a Lincoln as a "maybe" , I could almost afford to loose the $$$ for this one if itdidn't perform, but it's done real well.
Only issue I've had, is one battery isn't as long lasting as the other, but I'm able to charge them in my service van (inverter)
It even primes itself, usually with in three stroke and it's pumping again once you have a fresh tube in it.
