Greasing impact wrenches ?

Hi im just wondering if anyone greases the inside of there impact guns as today i received my ingersoll rand 2145 qimax in the manual it says i should be greasing the gun every 48 hours but to do this it seems i need to buy a ingersoll rand grease gun kit which is 60 dollars is this a must have or can i get away with out doing it any input will be helpful

if it requires more than air tool oil before each use, I don't need it!

I've never greased one myself, I do hit them with air tool oil regularly though.
Good stuff too. No dollar store brand for me.

I do mine once a year but do not use them in a daily setting, also have the kit. Be aware there are different greases for their composite or AL housings. The tube they give you will last multiple lifetimes, so it's a small investment for $$ impact guns IMHO.
Any needle fitting on a gun will work, not sure about using "normal" grease though.

Not sure where you are seeing 60, Amazon has the kit for under 30...

I have the 2115,2135, and the 2145 and I grease them about every 3-4 months. I do about 10 pumps of regular grease with a needle fitting on my grease gun. I think your suppose to do it till you feel a little drag on the anvil by hand but not sure.

Edit: The 2115 gets less than 10 pumps, and the 2145 does not feel any drag with 10 pumps but I only haven't had it too long.

I have a 2135. These design guns have a small cap in the hammer case that takes a little bit of grease. It is important not to fill the hammer case with grease.

Note that 48 hours does not mean you should grease it every other day. It means 48 hours of operation. That may be a few months of use in a tire shop, or a lifetime of use for many other people.

Buckgnarly has it right. Pump em full at least weekly. You'll notice a difference in performance. Airtool oil libricates the vanes of the tool. Grease takes care/lubricates and cushions the hammers in the tool.

You can buy the grease guns on ebay for a few dollars to do this, they work well, but it really only takes a couple minutes to remove the 4 bolts at the back of the housing and take the hammer cover off and you can easily grease it that way. Take the hammers and anvil out face it straight up on the bench, kind of twist the anvil and center the hammers with your fingers while you're pulling upon the anvil and it will come out, them take a small screwdriver and push the pins out in the hammer cage on the sides if they haven't fallen out by now and remove the hammers and wipe it all off and grease it. Doing it this way you get to see how much grease is in there and you can get a better idea. I don't grease mine to be honest until I hear the hammers clanking around in there. Not very often at all. If they're saying every 48 hours of use, that is a whole lot of impacting when you really think about it.

The pump is convenient if you're greasing it weekly (that means you're using the gun a lot!).

Since I grease mine once a month at most, I bought the grease tub (1lb) instead. You'll have to remove the hammer case (4 screws), but you apply the grease exactly where it's suppose to go, plus I get to clean the internals. I end up using less compared to the grease gun.

Buy yourself a tiny grease gun for air tools, it's all you need, they work fine. They're nice guns, lots of torque and made more stout on the inside than the 2141 is, steel end plate in the motor, bigger rotor output shaft, heavier made anvil and hammers, etc. You'll like it, I'm sure, and it should be very hard to break. I feel they did a great job on this one and I don't say that very often as I have seen the weak spots of impacts over and over. I plan on replacing my 2141 with one of these.

Sounds excellent will save my hands from constant vibrations as the workshop 3/4 gun took about 30 seconds constant on the trigger to remove 1 wheel nut
