Great Board - Need Advice on Insulation/Interior Walls

This is a great resource, and I really have enjoyed thumbing through the various threads...

I need help in deciding what type of insulation/panelling to use in the interior of my detached garage.

My garage will be used mostly for metal fabrication and welding and whatever I use needs to be cost effective.

Do I put up any type of moisture barrier before insulation? Does it really matter to soundproof if I don't soundproof the metal doors and roof?

What kind of money am I looking at with metallic panelling?

Thanks,
Jon D.

That sure is bright... LOL ;)

good stuff, Jon... I still think you need to put some plywood in the rafters for some loft type storage.

With welding, sparks from grinding, and such I'd recommend 5/8" fire-rated gypsum board (drywall) and batt insulation. Spray foam or rigid insulation would give better R-values but may not be worth the extra money. You don't say where you are from, so hard to say on that point. Get batt with the vapor barrier and orient it with the vapor barrier towards the typically warm side - against the outer face up north and toward the inside down south.

Hard to tell where you are from the pictures - is soundproofing going to be an issue with the neighbors?

Haven't priced metal panels lately and the costs have been going up over the past year or two. Just check in at Lowe's or Home Depot for a quote - prices can vary by area as well.

Take a moment to put up your information - go to User CP on the top left side so that we know where you are and a little more information and can better help you out.

Welcome!

He's in northeast OK, Tulsa to be exact.....

BTW, noise with the neighbors won't be an issue..... he would have to work on one of his jalopies first! LOL
