Today I went to the local Sears to remedy the issues with my Craftsman Premium 3/8th ratchet. I was expecting the usual Sears b.s but was pleasantly surprised. I wanted a rebuild kit for my 3/8th premium as it locks up alot. I was not going to trade it for any overseas model as it was the last Christmas present my late father ever gave me. I was surprised when a very knowledgeable and friendly employee gave me a rebuild kit and then ordered me three more so id be "set for life". I know how most tend to bash Sears on this forum and their china made **** , it was just nice to see someone who cares. If anyone needs a rebuild kit for this ratchet the rebuild kit # is 2886.

Those really are good ratchets. Use it, don't abuse it, and keep it clean and you will be "set for life". Good to hear about that experience.

I have had almost the same experience with a 1/2" USA Thin Profile Ratchet. They gave me three kits and sent me on my way.

Did they pay for the 3 kits? No wonder they look like they are going under.

My best bud (my wife) bought me a 3/8 premium drive 2 years ago for my birthday. I know she didn't pay full retail for it, because she is always protecting our finances. She knew I was soured on Craftsman. But she bought it because it was USA and new that mattered a lot to me. At the time I had no idea the thing existed. It was pre GJ for me. I was using it and it skipped on me. It caused a 1/4 in bolt it go through the middle of my mechanix glove smack dab in the middle of my palm. It hurt like hell. The next day while I was at work she took it back to our small hometown style store. The guy said "oh no" not another. He opened it in front of her. Showed her an early production flaw. And put a new kit in right there. He handed her an extra kit just in case. He said unfortunately with Sears, these thing might be dead soon. She was heart broken, because at the time the price she paid was a real investment for us. For that reason I use the **** out of that ratchet. I told her that we may not ever need that free kit. Yes, there are better ratchets out there. But for my girl she had never heard of snap on, banco, etc. she knew Craftsman USA. And because of that, it is still the best ratchet I own. The guy throwing in a kit is not in the least why Sears is hurting. Whenever she sees Adam in our small town she says hello. It meant the world to her that she got great customer service that day. To this day when we go into that small store he is quick to point out the end of the U.S. stuff. He was told to clear out the U.S. WILDE pry bars last year. He would have discounted them to us. But you know what, I said I owe you one and paid full price. To me, still a great deal. They are made in KS. Makes me proud when I use the **** out of them.

Great ratchets -
Yeah they really good ratchets. Nice handle on them and a slim head. Very good tooth engagement with very little backdrag. I have the 1/4 and 3/8 models and like them for their slightly longer handle. They fit in somewhere between a standard length and long handle in their respective drive sizes.

Repair kits bought en-masse are actually really really low cost (pennies on the dollar and cheaper than a new ratchet). Much less loss-lead compared to Costco's hot dogs (damn I love those things).

Sadly, most associates in the sales area don't know anything about tools. It gives the experience quite a few on here have had with horrible sales people.

Sears has been good to me. Just don't buy much from them anymore since most of the stuff is made overseas.

Every time I go to Sears, I bring a list of the kits I need with me. The clerks will go ask the PMT upstairs for the kits, and they come down with most of the ones I've ever asked for.

I have never had a warranty problem with any Sears tool in 25+ years of buying there. In the rare case I had an issue, a manager came over and resolved it quickly. Failing that, a quick call to corporate got it resolved.

Sears has always been good to me too. I just stay away from the young kids and the old farts. The mid-30's/40's employees always seem to "get it done" for me.

I've dealt with the "young kids" (even when I was probably the same age as them at the time) and the "old farts" and whoever else works there. My Sears has a few ladies in the tool department.

I know what I need when I go there, I have the stock/model # in hand and when I go for a warranty return I tell them, "I know exactly which ones I need and I can bring you the exchanges, one for one".

They usually say, "Ok, fine. Knock yourself out" and then I bring up my returns, they put them through the register, hand me the tools and receipt and say "Have a nice day". Done.

Sears has always done right by me. I have taken a number of tools back for exchange, and always been cheerfully taken care of each time. No questions asked. Even when they did not have it in stock they ordered it and had it delivered to my home. Thanks Sears:beer:
