I myself along with others here are willing to overlook many things people do ONCE. (some never will... Get use to it!) We all make mistakes! My opinion of people or businesses is greatly influenced by how those mistakes are handled. I am not pretending to be judge jury & executioner here but rather trying to share with you my insight.

Steve

My profession has nothing realated to anything here GJ. But do want to say, I did post a thread in my first 50 or so post that I shouldn't have.
It stated something in the regaurds of use the dang search button. I was quickly corrected in how to go about saying/helping fellows out here. And yes, I stand corrected in what I said and how I approached the topic.

I did understand what a few said to me about helping a new guy out, but let me say this,I comepletely understand 100 times more now than at the moment.
Why?

The other part of the above quote:

Which I believe to be, humour, help or protection (of our piece of the net). Steve

Dude, here's the thing.....what you were asking about was non-specifc and basically covers the entire purpose of the website. From our side of the fence it looks like you just pitched the idea of a search engine to find stuff on the internet to google.

Bingo.

The OP just seemed a little strange.

Yea sorry you look like a spammer. Did you over look the "Introduce Yourself Here" section during the 6-8 minutes that you looked at this site?

Normal people do not talk like this:

"this is the place we can help one another making YOUR garage a great space for you and your family!"

It sounds a lot like advertising-speak to me.

This is the sort of thing that can happen when you offshore your online marketing.

Make sure you always use PVC for airlines
Wait, never use PVC.

Be sure to put your plugs in upside down.
Only an idiot would do that.

Buy only SnapOn tools
Wait SnapOn is overpriced.

Buy only HF. Anything beyond that is a waste.
If you buy from HF you're a pinko commie and killing our country.

Sears *****. I can't believe I keep going there. I have to complain on the internet after every trip
Hey, I totally scored some made in USA Craftsman stuff on closeout

Hey my hot deal 4 post car lift I bought on Amazon for $4 got cancelled. What gives?

The IR2135TI Max is unquestionably the best impact wrench out there except the SnapOn and Aircat might be better and the HF earthquake might be better than all of them.

WooHoo. She's hot where'd you get that pinup picture from.

Holy **** that ZTFab guy can weld

Jack Olson has deservedly won every award this side of the Nobel Peace prize for the 12-gauge garage.

I'm definitely doing tile, I mean epoxy, I mean polishing the floor. Oh hell, I've spent 500 hours reading and analyzing. I went back to college for a degree in chemistry and I still can't decide.

There. You're all caught up.

Awesome.

So I suppose it is common for some immature people here to get into name calling.

Although I know if get into that frame of mind I can definitively make several of you look like idiots, Since, I seem to have a higher degree of self control than most, I will refrain from the childish games that I have been exposed to here on the garage journal in my short time here.

I appreciate the few who have voiced their opinion without crossing lines. But members like bdkruger1, RobSmith, 70redbee, ed_v, NUTTSGT, TN_GARAGE do not know how to welcome a newcomer to this site. I noticed at least a few also were trying to contribute to what I was trying to get at. I am getting feeling that since I started a thread like this that all the wife beaters here seem it's necessary to get aggressive with a new user to the site. Go to therapy or something.
(did someone call others "wife beaters?"

Just because I started a profile a couple of days ago, many of you seem to repeat others saying that I haven't read through some other threads. This is simply not true. And if you read all the posts you would see you are repeating previous posts.
Come again?
As far as why I can't get into too much detail of a project we are working on, what part of that statement did you not understand PC06! Did you help supe up the little bus that took you to school?
Well, you said it first, "I can definitively make several of you look like idiots, Since, I seem to have a higher degree of self control than most, I will refrain from the childish games."
For all that have mentioned some real stupid things about someone you don't know, why hasn't anyone mentioned that we have a great relationship with Ron fellows, that we are supporters of Canada's Motorsport Hall of Fame, or that we have held Canada's largest exotic charity car show? I really seems members would prefer to hassle newcomers, rather than sharing some REAL ideas we can sink our teeth into.

Very disappointing!
Damn, you said it again!

Just wanted to some action on this thread that worked but not the type of reaction I was looking to get. I can't believe I offended so many people here.. It's not offshore marketing.

what i would do, and i have lived my entire life offending people:D, is step back, take a deep breath, and then introduce yourself in the appropriate section.
then possibly contribute to a few ongoing threads so people can get to know your before jumping right into the pot. you have to walk before you can run, right? stay calm, keep it classy. the internet is quick to forget your good posts, but your meltdowns and bizarre moments are never forgotten.
just my $.02

btw...i too checked out your website, some cool looking garages on there:thumbup:

I saw the thread before anyone replied and thought it was a dumb post mainly because it was calling for a thread encompassing the vast number of subjects. All of these subjects are currently the basis of the site. Even if there was a point of rehashing everything we're already discussing, cramming thousands of detailed conversations into one thread would be useless in no time.

So I didn't bother posting anything to the thread.

My advice the OP is stop replying to this thread and start fresh with some pertinent replies on other ones. Maybe even ask a mod to delete this one as it is quite pointless.

When I was new here I read 200+ post, before I made my first post.
I made many contributing post before starting a thread.
I'd suggest you do the same.
As others have suggested, you should walk before running.
There are many great people here that have tons of knowledge, this is no place to try to school people.
If you want to play here, learn the game.
This is just one big happy dysfunctional family... and we like it that way.
BTW- I usta' ride the short bus, now I drive it.

You guys are killing me. I thought this thread would be the end all, be all of garage organization and utilization. Now where will I get such information?

So, you're not going to name call, but if you decided to, you'd be better at it than all of us, AND in the same post can only come up with short bus and wife beater insults?

I know that this post accomplishes nothing. I for one don't want to get into a name calling contest, especially with his self proclaimed highness of name calling. However, I stand by my post.

You only get one chance to make a first impression.

I'm hoping we can use this thread to share great garage ideas with one another, whether it's putting a tennis ball in the right spot so you don't smash your wall or explaining how to properly prepare the room for a floor coating, this is the place we can help one another making YOUR garage a great space for you and your family!

I think the Garage Gallery shares the great garage ideas with photo.

The Flooring section has hundreds of threads telling how to properly prepare a floor for a coating, or tile, or RaceDeck, or porcelain, or VCT, or, or, or

And General Discussion basically covers discussion on how to make "YOUR" garage a great place for you and your family, and friend, and kids, and, and, and....

And everything falls under the heading of Garage Journal. So I don't really think we need the Thread of all threads to cover every single topic that has been covered a multitude of times over and over.

BTW....hook up with Ryan, the site Admin. Maybe you can get some front page advertising and then start giving some member discounts

If we start over, the thread could be called "Tips and Tricks for the Garage." (with due apologies to Jody at Welding Tips and Tricks dot com.)

Or "Clever Little Garage Ideas." Or "Handy Dandy Doo Dads."

Anything but what it is titled and how it started out. I want to be the first here to reverse the direction of this thread and make it turn out something other than a bash fest. I know, I bashed.

1stChoice, your turn, give us a good little idea that we can use for the garage. Like using common peg board as a drill guide for adjustable shelf pegs. Something like that.

Ok, I'll discuss a topic I seem to get lots of calls about, I'm not sure if this is a problem in geographical area or if this happens a lot. Maybe we have a bad concrete company here. I get loads of calls every year, the homeowner says that the concrete slab in the garage is sloped in the wrong direction and water pools towards the interior wall of the house. We have a company in our city that can drill some small holes at the low point and fill the crevice under the slab with a product that will actually raise that area. It can save lots of money. You don't need to remove and replace the existing slab, which becomes a headache and be super costly. I'm sure there is someone in your area that can get this done for you.

Who's turn is it now?

You talking about slab-jack, they are great for repair, don't think I would want a brand new slab that was poured wrong repaired that way, you would have to cut it around the edges before lifting it. There should be no "crevice under the slab" on a new build.
Instead of calling the members here names after saying you won't stoop to that level, why don't you try to contribute to threads that already have questions you might be able to help with, as has been suggested already.
Also if you really want to contribute to the board, contact Ryan and become a sponsor.

This would fit here or here or maybe here.

If someone is looking for a solution to the water pooling in his garage because his slab slopes the wrong, do you think he's more likely to go to a thread entitled, "Poor slab angle, now water pooling issues" or to one entitled, "Great Garage Ideas! Aesthetics or Functional!"

I learn lots from this forum, chiefly because there is extensive discussion of any idea. Any idea that someone is likely to make in this thread will either be trivial, and hardly worth a post (surplus Air Force jumpsuits make great coveralls) or controversial, and worth further discussion (SlabJack: timewarp says it's great for repair, but Harding apparently had a bad experience with it.)

This thread is a solution in search of a problem.

I have already mentioned that I have been actively looking through 100's of threads, and have already added my 2 cents on several threads. I was looking through the website till about 3am last night. Thanks for the advice.

As far as the sponsorship is concerned, there will be something in the near future for us promote with sponsorship. One of the projects I am a part of will surely benefit from sponsorship to the site and it's members for feedback.

I think this thread was misinterpreted, seems like the members here are just making sure that spammers do not high jack this slice of the web.

Sorry, I don't want to remain critical. Seems like I've hit a low in recent weeks and have not been positive. I wanted your thread, 1stChoice, to be a place where I could again be a good citizen.

We have a process called mud jacking that can be controlled fairly well. But I have to agree, that doesn't fit the title of your thread or even my suggested titles.

BTW, who put the tags in for this thread? (cabinets, epoxy, flooring, garage tiles, organizers)
I don't see where they can be added in a reply.

If that was 1stChoice, then he is guilty as charged. Pure spam.

My grandfather used to have a totem tennis ball (ball on a string) dangling from the ceiling right above the windscreen. It was positioned so you drive up and stop just as the ball touches the windscreen and this would leave about an inch or two between the front of the car and the garage wall when parking (it was a tight garage).
I assume that is what the original poster was talking about. It isn't pretty and I haven't seen anyone doing that for years.

I do that (is there something better that costs $1?). Big orange one right in front of the windscreen so when my wife parks her Explorer she doesn't "bump" my nice Atlas Lathe.

I guess I could invest in one of those fancy stoplight deals you hang on the wall but it would most likely be another plastic piece of **** that I would need to fix at some point.
