So,
I know we all complain here a bunch, so I figured it was worth posting a positive experience.
I bought a Makita MAC2400 from Home Depot's website. After it was delivered I tried to install the air filter (just need to screw it in). Well, while screwing it in the filter broke in my hand. Upon inspecting the threads on the compressor cylinder head, it was clear why it broke. The threads were not cut properly so for several turns, the threading was incomplete. Hence, once I hit that portion, the pot metal on the air filter just sheared off.
After several unsuccessful attemtps to contact Makita (kept getting disconnected - from a land line - while on hold) I finally decided to just return it. I asked for a replacement, but it was out of stock online (and not carried in store) and wasn't going to be restocked until the new year. I said my money back would be fine. Long story short, HD just gave me the MAC5200, which they had in stock, for the same price! Free upgrade and no hassle for the return. I wasn't even angling for a discount. The new compressor works great.
Then I bought $100 worth of lumber, so I guess their customer service paid off!
I know big box stores can often be impersonal, but the customer service at my local HD was great. Just figured I would share a positive story.
