great neck tools at pep boys

Not that most of you care about Great Neck tools, but I saw them at Pep Boys, along with their other standard brand, Powerbuilt. They had the quad box ratcheting wrenches (double box, 4 sizes on each wrench) in GN brand.

I always thought Great Neck was an Autozone only brand. I still see Great NEck at Autozone, but I see way more Duralast stuff there.

I blacklisted Pep Boys for life when I found out what they did with their (relatively good) selection of Lisle tools. Had my eyes on a couple of things for a while, managed to save up some cash to buy them, went in one day and the aisle was half empty/half filled with chinese garbage. I asked and they didn't even put them on clearance--just sent them back to the mfg.

If you're referring to the quadbox, they were 19.99, which is the same price as the duralast.

Yes I was, thanks. The pricing is very interesting. I guess since they don't put GN stuff on sale as much as GW stuff at Sears they have to price it competitively year round.

No, I am sure you are right, most including me look at GN as grocery store fodder. Just to get ya goin straight never, ever give a second look at GN tools under any circumstances. Oh yea, if great uncle Henry croaks and leaves you a bucket full of GN tools quietly and without ceremony dispose of them as quickly as possible without offending any other family members etc. By now you are starting to get the idea, never hang on to GN tools..................they are absolute ****! (And no, I am not a tool polisher or Snap-on addictee!)

The lisle tools at Pep Boys was the only reason I ever went there; they had a great selection. Haven't been there in a while and looks like I won't being going anymore.
Guess I will be ordering Lisle on-line for now...

Great Neck === Great Break

I've bought some (the only thing I could get at the time ) to make repairs on the side of the road and wasn't impressed at all. I cringe at work (Auto Zoo) when I see somebody buy that ****. That stuff should come with a box of band-aids for the busted knuckles your gonna get when it lets go !

You can say what you want but the Duralast brand ain't too bad, we seldom get one back broken, but we get a buttload of Great Neck back broken.

I'm surprised that no one drew a correlation between the quality of tools a given parts store sells and the quality of reapir parts sold by that store.

great neck........the duralast seems to be generic imported stuff copying snap on. probably ok for the do it yourself'ers, but thier not for me.

Let me clarify this.........I don't own any Duralast...don't plan on it. I still have all my stuff from when I retired ( Snap-on, Mac, Cornwell etc.) I'm just saying it's a damn site better than Great Neck. Nowdays hell even if you buy it off the tool trucks it ain't no sure thing it's made in the USA.

AS far as the quality of parts sold there......Very few things I buy there. The Mom & Pop stores are gone for the most part where you could buy ALL name brand parts. Now you have to settle for "house" brand stuff for the most part.

I drive the delivery truck...the one that delivers parts to the shops that put Duralast parts on the cars when folks take them in for service.

Yes........the Wal-Mart mentality abounds in the big box parts stores. The big box boys have put the little true blue parts houses out to pasture by volume buying from the manufacturer just like Wally World. Around here in the Atlanta / N. Ga. area there aren't anymore wholesalers that sell to the independant stores because they went away along with the smaller stores.

The way I see it...you don't have alot of choices.....sooo...what ya gonna do ?
