Just thought I'd share where I go to look for things when I'm doing projects in the shops. We've got a Habitat For Humanity store that is 20 minutes from the house. It's called "Restore" and you can pick up new and used items like cabinets, doors, windows etc. for REALLY cheap prices. It's all items that have been donated from job sites and stores going out of business. All purchases are tax free because HFH is a not for profit organization. Here's their website to find out if you've got a store near you.

Here in Michigan they are not tax-free. The prices vary wildly from store to store. I have picked up some deals and I see stuff priced higher than retail.
They often "employ” “volunteers” that are serving “community service”.
I got a screaming deal on drycore once and a decent deal on tile backer board. Never enough product, but you save a few bucks. You have to look often to get a deal.
