So, I picked up this green Craftsman wrench just because I'd never seen one before. Does anyone know about these? Did Craftsman make John Deere wrenches? CI maker mark

Some people, typically in the trade, will paint wrenches for quick identification on large job sites with lots of other workers. Someone just did a better job and masked off the raised panels.

Sears, owner(or should I say previous owner) has never made and product they have sold. They have had hundreds of different manufactures make the products they sell to the specifications that is set by Sears. John Deere branded tools(at least in the last 75 years) has been made by different manufactures as well, typically though not to their design, just stamped with their name. So no, John Deere has never sold craftsman wrenches

Regular John Deere hand tools, like the wrenches aren't ever green either. With the exception of some of wrenches that came with the older tractors. But those tools never had a name stamped on them and usually lacked quality as well.

Painted.

Green paint meant specially cleaned for O2 service at a lab I worked at long ago.... but box-ends aren't much good for piping so maybe some farmer just wanted to coordinate with his John Deere.....

One of the new apprentices at work showed up with his new toolbox and way too much attitude. Apprentices get the weekends off. When he returned on Monday his toolbox was pink and we mounted two flower holders on the front corners.
A dip in some gun wash will make the green go away. Gun-wash is the strong thinner painters use to clean paint guns.
