Hi, I am Lester Mortier, inventor of the Green Hinge System.
I developed this product because there was a need to improve the performance of energy- wasting overhead doors. This invention would not only address my needs but also addressed the problems so many others had shared when I started researching repair options and contacting door companies.
I tried to adjust my door tracks in order to bring the door tighter to the jam; While it helped, it was not the answer I was looking for. Other efforts were time consuming and did very little to improve my doors performance.
I developed several prototypes, finally deciding on heavy gauge metal adding a spring-loaded hinge that provided a tight seal but allowed the spring to flex and allowed the door lateral movement required for smooth and proper operation.
While keeping out the cold was my initial motivation, I soon realized that the money I was saving in energy cost was another huge advantage! Along with keeping out snow, draft, dirt, bugs and stops door rattle.
