Green Hinge on Amarr Door

I saw several people using the Green Hinges, and since I finally got a heater in my garage, I thought it was time to address the bad door seals. I ran into an issue since my 18' Amarr door is one of those non-pinch designs with recessed hinges. The pivot point is below the seam, and inside the door thickness, so the Green Hinge wouldn't work.

I contacted them, and spoke directly with Lester (several times), who was really helpful. He suggested replacing the nine center hinges with plain #1 hinges. Sure enough the hinge points lined up, and I only had to drill one new hole per hinge in the door. Everything is all snugged up now, and quieter.

It's nice to see someone successfully invent something and make it here. They're beefier than standard hinges and have a nice powder coat finish.

Can you give some more detail about this? You had to change all the other door hinges as well? (The ones that dont attach to the tracks?)

Where did you have to drill the new hole? Can you take a picture of your complete garage door so I can compare to mine?

Looks like the hole above the bottom bolt. On his style door, the pivot is below the seam, therefore requiring new hinges in the center (#1's) so the all pivot In the same spot. A 1/4-20 self driller will work or any self driller really. As long as the reinforcement is there.

Your make and model should be on a sticker on one end of the sections, or the track. May be gone though depending on age.

I have the same kind of hinges, or at least very similar. I understand whats going on now.

Good to know I have an option available to make the green hinge work on my door. I guess the track rollers on my door arent on a hinge at all, its just a guide. Lester told me he is working on something for the pinchless design doors and expecting it to drop this fall.

Is that a 2-car (16' wide) door? Their website say to use commercial hinges ... can you confirm?

Old thread, again, I also wanted to say thanks for the information! I looked the information over along with the pictures, and it seems very plausible.
