Green Hinge System

I recently installed the "green Hinge System" on my overhead door. I wasn't sure that it would make that big of a difference but it really did. The tracks for the door were already adjusted forward as far as they could go to seal against the wall. We have been having frigid temps here lately and replacing the door seal isn't ideal at these temps. The green hinge system really helped tightening the gap, new seals would just add. Before the door would move a little bit when it was real windy, now it doesn't move at all. I highly recommend them, they made a huge difference!

I swear I read this thread a month or so ago, almost verbatim the same. Started by someone with a low post count. Hmmm... do I smell an advertisement?

I wish my garage door would work with them. I ordered a set, and found that my door style wouldn't work with them.

They were nice and accepted them back for a refund. But I really would have rather just been able to use them.

I also have seen a few postings about this product recently from low count posters. It screams "advertisement".

Moderators should look into these postings for green hinge.

I have more questions than answers.
Until you adjust your door properly save your money. We have another door company in my area that can't seemed to be bothered with that and many details with their installs. I have never been on a job that needed green hinges after properly adjusting the door in almost 20 years of selling and installing doors. Cheap and damaged doors need to be replaced.

I look at green hinges as a solution looking for a problem that has other fixes.

Bam! Thanks for the help lilredex. Seems cheesy to me to post as members to sell a product. Makes me want to avoid the product on principle alone.

Yes! I noticed the exact same thing...

So quick to to judge, I actually bought the product and in my situation it worked out well for me. It may help someone else that had a similar problem. Is this not the place to post things like this?

I agree to some extent, in my situation, this was the best solution short of having new track installed. I adjusted mine as well as I could. Mine was more of a short term solution until I feel like shelling out the money for a new door.

It just looks a little suspicious when someone's first post is a glowing endorsement (or a scathing review) of some product. You'll see one and done posts here like that on a pretty regular basis - someone joins up to make that one post and then disappears, never to be seen again.

However, it appears you're a real person and will stick around, so no worries. :)

Oh no, here comes another "door" guy to bash these hinges. Like it or not these things work!

Sheetrockers pushed my door up tight so it is hard to open and close. Ok for now as it keeps the heat in. What is the proper "adjustment" for a door so that it opens and closes easily but still has the right amount of "gap" and still has good contact on the seals?

Yep, for those that don't know how to adjust their door or bought a cheap product. The price of these added to your door would have bought you a better door.

I guess another"door" guy making comments should tell you the pros know something you don't......

First thing, is do you have outside weather strip? If so is it new. You mentioned the sheetrock guy but that could be your just being able to sheetrock a building as opposed to new construction.

You need a good w/s that the mounting edge is flush with the door opening. You can then adjust your door to have solid contact with the weather strip and just lightly touching the framing, generally this part will apply to the bottom section only. The stand off brackets and hinges are designed to move the door away from the opening as the door opens, and bring it in as it closes.

If your hinges have to much play and/or the rollers are undersized for the track you will have trouble with wind pushing the door in away from the seal. Quality doors do not have this problem. It's cheaper to buy new rollers and regular hinges than buying these hinges.

If you need more clarification lmk

I installed these on 3 of my dad's doors. He has everything adjusted correctly before these were installed. He gets wind gusts so bad that it would rattle his doors at times and even push them in at times. Once these were installed he no longer has these issues. They made a huge improvement on both his house and shop. Otherwise he would be adjusting everything all the time.

I had 2 different door companies look at my door and try to adjust it, no luck. Wind gusts just pushed door and let cold air in. Once I installled green hinges all problems solved, god sent product. They long paid for themselves with heat loss no longer an Issue and sealing the door as well as annoying snow blowing in cracks. Heater barely runs anymore in fridgid cold windy winters.

And I suppose that you sell a better door than a Wayne-Dalton series 8500 2" thick commercial door? And I have had "pros" like you not be able to fix the problem either. You need to check yourself...these things work.Read some of the hundreds of posts by others.

Yes I do. Seen way to many issues with Wayne Dalton doors. I let others install them. You even knocked your doors yourself since they need green hinges. My favorite manufacturers doors don't need green hinges. Read my comment about higher quality doors don't need them. Might be why the door guys couldn't fix yours. You have never had me look at your problem, but I can see it from here.

No need to check myself or read homeowners posts. You already said about another door pro's negative comments about them. Maybe you should read the part about undersized rollers.

Glad they worked for you.

So, I see people saying they work and another say to adjust your doors and a waste of money. For those that say it is a waste of money, what’s the harm? I’m mean, if you adjust the seals but want defense against the wind, what the harm in spending $85 for peace of mind. I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I’m considering getting these as $85 in the grand scheme of things is a low cost to possibly fight heat/cooling loss due to the winds I see moving my door.

I’m sure we all have spent more on a tool or gadget that we have used once and now it sits on the shelf and forgotten. If this helps one day out of the year for 15-20 years, it seems like a wise investment.

Sweet, another ad from a brand new poster. See first post. See similar first post ad linked above. See poster above me. Wtf. Good product or not, I’ll never support such practices.

If you are saying I’m affiliated with this company, you are mistaken. But, how am I supposed to prove I’m not. It’s an anonymous forum ... you want my drivers license?

I’m merely saying, if, by some reason, you install these and they damage your door, track etc, then I get saying it is a waste of money. But if it doesn’t hurt anything, why not try them. If you think that makes me a shill ... then good day to you. I’ll measure my **** somewhere else.

Agree. A low count poster revives an old thread about a product. Screams advertisement just to keep the manufacturers name alive. Good product or not, this is ruining GH's reputation.
