I just got done installing the green hinge on my garage door I am very happy with the outcome.

Installation took maybe 15mins max (using an impact)

They have great customer service I got on the green hinge website posted a question got a call in about 5 mins helped me decide what to order.

Pictures are not great but you can make out the light coming in on the sides in the first picture. The second picture is after installed. The last shows with no lights on.

Sealed up tight lot less noise hopefully this helps someone decide.

Do you know what the difference is between the residential hinges and the commercial hinges?

when I talked to him he asked if I had a single car door or a double when I said it was a double he said I should go with the commercial version I am not sure why but call him he was very forth coming on the phone

I posted about these before and I'm now finishing up my second winter with them. My only regret is not knowing about them sooner. Lester is a nice guy. You may want to set aside a few minutes if he calls. Interesting guy to talk to!

Glad I found this thread, I only even saw it when browsing the what did you do in your garage thread...

Does this affect the opening or closing of the door at all? I have high track garage doors and the TOP of the garage door is not flush with the wall because of the way they pushed the tracks out slightly so that my handle on the outside would clear the top portion when opening... if not, then the handle would completely block the door from opening... I am wondering if these would push the door back up against the wall so when opening the door the handle would hit the top of the garage opening?

I wish they made block off plates for the stupid exterior handle of garages... I'd gladly remove it, however there would be holes in place because of it.

These look good if nothing else to at least close the gap, because there is a gap currently...

Maintenance wise what is needed for the springs? What is expected life?

I just installed a set on a double wide aluminum door. I missed the note about ordering commercial type, but turns out for my light weight door they perform perfectly. Had some windy weather recently here in NW Georgia. Doors stayed tight to the seals. No noticeable
additional load on the opener. Good stuff.

Did you reach out to Lester Mortimer (the inventor and owner of Green Hinge)? When I've call him, he has been very responsive. I've read posts of others who have called him and they have mentioned he is very responsive to their questions.

Get with the program Kevin. If you don't move soon, you'll be one of the few on the Garage Journal Forum without Green Hinges.

Lester told me the GJF has been a very effective component of his marketing strategy.

I picked up 2 sets of hinges from Lester at his shop last Saturday for my new home. I found Lester to be very friendly and forthcoming with tips and things to look out for when choosing a door and installing his hinges.

I would advise the poster who had a problem to call him and explain your issue. He will listen and make it right. I wish all vendors for my new home were like Lester, he is very passionate about his product and customer satisfaction. :thumbup:

I read on this site about the Green Hinge and just bought two sets, one for a 5 panel door and the other for a 7 panel door. WOW!!! These are great, easy to install WHEN YOU READ DIRECTIONS and I could feel the results right away because the cold air was no longer coming around the door. Any one that has wonder should I get them, don't wonder any longer GET THEM they will pay for themselves in saved heat. Global warming might be a thing of the past because you will be keeping the heat in your building or garage.

I just put my Green Hinges on yesterday. There is a tremendous difference in sealing the opening. Wish I had done it long ago.

Sound like an overly complicated and expensive solution to t a simple problem. Why not just adjust your tracks correctly? Or properly install the weather strip closer to the door -- it has its own 'springiness'.

Thanks for creating this thread. I'm buying these! I recently replaced my seals along the sides of my door, in an effort to better insulate the building. It worked to a degree. Still got to replace the seal on the bottom of the door, and across the top. That's going to be fun...

A number of tracks are riveted and can't be easily adjusted. The Green Hinge is not complicated or expensive really. It gets the job done in a few minutes of time.

I am on year two with his hinges, great product and solved my issue of wind bowing in the door. I get 40 mph gusts some days living in the flat country. These hinges keep the door in place and keep the heater from running non stop in the winter when then wind is kicking.

I ordered a couple of sets for my 12' doors and recieved them yesterday. Tossed a couple on just to see the difference and they are going to be great! The two panels I put them on are now pushed against the door frame.

If your door doesn't seal the solution isn't adjusting the tracks or green hinges. Your stops molding on the outside needs adjusted or replaced.

I've had my green hinges on for a couple months now. It did close the gaps in the garage doors. I did not notice any quieter operation as I already have nylon/rubber rollers and lift master 8400s. Temp wise it's hard to tell. Over the weekend it was 20-30 degrees and my garage was steady at 40 degrees... still cold but there wasn't that 'sweeping' breeze that it initially had before the hinges. Before I would setup a small heater in the garage just to take the chill off, I wish I would have written down the temps a year ago just so I could go off of something.

They are a quality product for sure, much more robust than the ****** hinges were quickly thrown in the trash after replacing them with these! I believe if I had better garage doors with thicker insulation than the Wayne Dalton 8100 doors it would probably be warmer in the garage.

Overall though these are a nice thing and surprisingly not really advertised much...

It made a huge difference. No air getting through and no bugs either (stink bugs are a big problem here).

My garage door is really old and needs to be replaced at some point anyway. But, in the interim, after doing the moldings there was no added value in doing the hinges.

Why would anyone have a garage door without having an outside seal?

I would guess that most posters on here already have an outside seal and are looking for better coverage.

I think it's both ensuring the tracks are tight and the outside stops.

But you're right, I don't see a purpose for the green hinge setup at all?
