I just installed these spring loaded hinges on my 8' x 16' overhead garage door.

The door faces west and the wind pushes the door away from it's weatherstripping letting in the cold winter air.

The installation was very simple and quick. The hinges are twice as thick as my existing hinges, quality made locally in Wisconsin and available from Amazon.

The door operates normally with the new hinges. I'll update this post the next time the wind kicks up to let you know how well they perform.

I also have these on my doors that face west. Dramatic improvement in reducing how much the doors get blown back by the wind.

I've been thinking of these as well.

How simple was the install? One at a time (remove/install)?

That's how I installed mine.

Ace hardware sells these hinges. Today, Dec 3, they are offering 15% off for online purchases. If you have a door greater than 12 feet wide, you must order the commercial version of this hinge. A 4 panel door hinge package price is list $90 but with 15% off lowers price to $76.50 plus shipping.

Just ran through the order process and shipping $10.50 for six hinges.

Maybe wait for a better discount and free shipping from Ace.

I've considered these a few times. I wish you could order them plain silver/galvanized, black, gray, etc. The green would stick out like a sore thumb in my garage that is completely white, gray and red. Repainting them would be quite a chore also.

Did you bolt their business card to the door?

I just adjust the tracks so that the door cannot move away from the seals.

I have more questions than answers.
The business card is the lifetime guarantee and my tracks are not adjustable.

The Lower end door manufacturers rivet the stand off brackets to the track. You just need to add a small carriage bolt through the track into the slotted hole, then drill out rivets. After rivets our out adjust track and tighten carriage bolt. Quick and much cheaper while putting the whole door closer to the weather strip.

Not sure how many install these hinges and already have adjustable tracks. ...

Just had to have 2 panels replaces on my one door that the previous owner apparently drove into (ugh). Should have bought the hinges ahead of time....silly me, but now I am purchasing them on both doors as I have a considerable draft from the old one that didn't need repair.

Hopefully they close the gap as claimed!

Not a worry for me, my 3 doors are on the east side. Problem I have is when the prevailing southwest winds blow, a low pressure zone on the east side creates a spiral that picks up every leaf on the driveway and piles in front of the doors.
I try to keep the doors shut, but when opened they all seem to come right in.

Learned not to use the blower to get them out when I set off every smoke detector in the house with the dust raised.

I never understood these hinges. It seems far cheaper, simpler and less time consuming to properly adjust the door, and replace $30 of sweeps on the outsides of the doors if necessary.

They solve a problem that your garage door is already designed to compensate for.

And the green is ugly!
