Howdy,

I'm Roldar. I'm from Tennessee. I have a BS degree (and we all know what that means) in what is best described as metal shop but is technically called Manufacturing and Industrial Technology from TN Tech.

If it's broken I can fix it. If it's not broken I can fix it til it is.

I've got a bit of a car problem and aspirations of building and driving a race car soonish.

I did an almost two year stint in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Guinea. Political shinanigans cut about four months out of my 27 month gig.

After that I stayed in Guinea and worked for some USAID projects mostly fixing Lister/Peter gensets and helping get an office and transit house up. Then I worked on an HIV/AIDS Prevention Program doing QA/QC and project set up. Then the shinanigans started up and I was back in my beloved Tennessee.

Now I'm going to Haiti to work on more gensets, train some technicians, and help build a hospital.

I'm looking for tips and advice on tools and tooling. I guess I need to find out where to post questions like that.

So howdy, and I'll see you all in the funny papers I reckon.

Welcome to the Garage Journal, roldar. Sounds like you are someone who isn't afraid to help others. You will fit in well here.

You mention the racecar aspiration....any particular car or class? Years back I helped campaign a street-stock on a 3/8 mile dirt oval.

BMW SPEC E30. I just think those are the sexiest cars.

I've got a buddy who's running in NASA American Iron and he's on a LeMons team. When I'm back on the permanent I'd like to give LeMons a try, and do some NASA Time Trial stuff til I can get a car fit to run (and be able to drive too).

I've got a '46 Willys CJ2A and a '67 Caddy (in sad sad shape that needs to go but I'll give her one more try before I part her out).

My daily is a '96 Toyota Camry that I'm about to roll 200k on. It's got some pretty serious issues so I bought a replacement. It's an '03 BMW 325i and haven't taken delivery yet. I'll pick it up, drive it home, and give it to my mom.

I just wrote a really really long post about a tool list but I'm gonna pare that down some and post it in the morning. I need advice on tools (what I need, what I don't, brands) but I'm too jazzed up on this new job to be able to get anything to make sense.
