Hello,

I'm on the west side of Columbus and I'm in early the planning stages for my building. I'm a car nut who's lived with a tiny 2 car garage for 17 years. My 1960 Thunderbird filled one side and the Minivan / SUV the other for the entire time. That entry level home garage was packed with just those two vehicles. My car has had to sit outside and working on anything next was tight.

We recently moved just outside of town on 1.4 acres. The attached garage is a nice improvement, 22' deep and 20' wide with wall cabinets, a workbench along the back and a wall mounted propane heater. Still, it's a 2 car garage, so my T'bird and the wife's Accord get dibs and my car still sits outside.

I made some changes to make the garage more useful by moving cabinets and shortening the workbench, but now that we've got the space, the plan was to build a place for my toys and it's now time to put that in motion.

I've never had anything built, so I've got a lot to learn. I tend to like to DIY both because I enjoy it and to save some money and I'm not afraid to tackle most things. I've done almost everything on a car except serious body and paint work and engine or transmission internals and I finished the basement on my old house. However, I doubt all be doing all of this myself and may simply contract out the whole thing.

I've been poking around here a bit and I'll likely post something about what I'm looking for soon as I've got a lot of questions about sizing, layout, construction, etc. Meantime, if you've got some good threads I should read to learn, please share them. I've already read The Concrete Underground's Guide to Floor Slabs and feel smarter already. :-D
