Hi all! Stumbled across this great site via a blog post (http://www.garagejournal.com/2014/12/atomic-shop-update-the-work-bench/#more-2099) that popped up on a Google image search while I was looking for workbench ideas, then I found the forum, then I registered, and now here I am. There's loads of good information here, and I am hoping I can give something back as I go through making my own garage awesome.

I need to fix this:

We moved into this house almost a year ago, and I have remodeled the kitchen and media room, and done lots of painting, all the while working in this mess. I've finally had it, and now I'll be finishing the garage before starting another project. I have done a few things already, like covering the exposed fiberglass insulation, organizing my lawn tools (which were all leaned in a corner), and getting my ladders off the floor. I still have a ton of stuff to do though. I need a workbench, storage, lighting, pretty much everything. I will probably start a garage thread to show progress, but I am terrible at remembering to take pictures when I am doing projects.

Great to be here, and looking forward to participating in the forum.

Hello and welcome to the forum NateX, you have really got a blank canvas there, looking forward to following your progress.

Howdy 1/2 Cup! I see you are from outside Melbourne. I get out to Australia about once a year, mostly Gold Coast/Southport area, and always for work, unfortunately. I've been to Brisbane several times, and spent an excellent weekend in Sydney a couple of years ago - what a great place - reminds me a bit of San Francisco. Almost had to go to Melbourne once for a customer visit, but it fell through at the last minute. I always enjoy visiting "Down Under", even if it's for work. I always say, it's kind of like the US, except you drive on the wrong side of the road. ;)

Cheers mate!

Nate: i can surely relate to your garage issue and i'm going to start an ORGANIZING thread soon. my wife thinks it's a swear word because i'm always saying it and she doesn't see much change.

might i suggest that you get a little bigger hangers and hang all the ladders up high on that wall because all that lower space is great for shelving and or workbenches. lots of great information already here on organizing, but not all on one thread i can think of hence my reason for starting a thread about it to gather a ton of ideas for all of us to share and use.

good luck with your garage and take a look at my welding table thread that has a nice bench on wheels that might work well in your garage.

Thanks drivesitfar! Thankfully, we have a double garage on the main level that is completely finished, so the wife never has to deal with the mess in the drive under, unless she has to go to the extra fridge, which is supposed to be my beer fridge, but that's another story!

I am not set on the ladder location, I am just trying to get things up out of the pile and figure out what works. I saw a nifty ceiling mount idea for ladders somewhere on here that I may copy.

Checked out your welding table thread, and it is giving me some ideas for a more portable and solid workbench.

Ouch!

I'm lucky in that I am usually out during off-peak times... still get stuck in traffic too often though. That's Atlanta for ya.
