Hello all.
My name is Rick and I'm located in Howard County, Maryland. My background includes a few short years as an auto mechanic, and 30+ years as a technician at NASA.
What brings me to Garage Journal? Well many years ago I had a 30'x40' garage built. Had big plans for the space, but then kids came along, and between them and some ill advised collecting habits I ended up with a 30'x40' space that's virtually unusable as it's crammed tight with cars and assorted other items.
I'm hoping to resurrect my dream of having a nice useable space, and hoping this group has some tips, tricks, and support to help me get back on track.
My garage is currently outfitted with 100amp 220volt 1phase electrical service, three 8'x9' roll up doors, several windows, and an 'open ceiling' area in the center bay to allow for full height lifts using a two post lift. I do own a Weaver-Hoffmann two post screw lift, but it's a 3phase unit, and limited to 6000 lbs. (I believe my 3500 series GMC van exceeds that) So I'm trying to figure out whether to use that lift or just find a newer higher capacity single phase unit.
Beyond that I've got a smattering of garage tools/equipment...... a 60 gallon air compressor, parts washer, metal polishing/buffing machines, bubble balancer, engine hoist and engine stands, hydraulic jacks, jackstands, and a slew of hand tools and pneumatic tools.
Anyway, this site looks interesting and I look forward to discussions with you!
