Hi Folks,
I'm new here to the journal and after seven years of waiting I'm finally getting my shop. I've got an un-attached 28' x 34' blank canvas here, and over time I hope to get some help from you all.
I'm still waiting for the electric to be installed, but it's got a 100 amp service going in. After that I'll be able to get in and do lighting, outlets, wall speakers, stereo, big screen and internet. Friends ask if I'm actually planning to work on cars in there??? (79 & 85 Camaros) -Well Maybe...
At the risk of getting in trouble on my first post, I'll mention the floor. I've been reading the forum for some time and I know it's a subject that's been beaten to death. I would love an epoxy coating and have been leaning towards Wolverine or Legacy. I've got engine stands and hoists with steel wheels and I'm afraid the cheaper floors won't cut it. Basic one color, no flakes. Flakes are nice but since it's supposed to be a working shop, I really need to be able to find that small screw I dropped. I also need to see how funds hold out for this one.
Two friend did their walls in OSB and couldn't be happier. It ends up looking a little rustic, but with a little caulking and a thick coat of oil base paint - Bingo. No holes when bumping into it with a jack, and no spackling till 2018. Besides, I have so many banners, posters and pictures to go up you're not going to see much wall.
As far as heating and cooling, I had the builder frame a spot for a 22,000-25,000 BTU air conditioner in the wall. I'm not too worried about heating at the moment, possibly one of those hanging propane units. I was looking at those split systems, but can't bring myself to spend $3000-$3500.
OK, I guess I've blabbed long enough, and I think a lot of this would be separate discussions, but I just got a little carried away. Any guidance is welcome.
