Hi all,
I stumbled on GJ looking for plans to build a workbench in my "garage," then got hooked on "The vises of GJ" thread. It took me about 3 months to read through that monster - which has been great, although not conducive to my efforts to refrain from the siren call of those "new" old vises that keep showing up. Now that I'm caught up with the thread I hope to take and post some pics of my collection - mostly Stanleys and English Records from the 1930's to around 2000.
I still haven't built my bench...Our house is a 1918 Craftsman bungalow (about 1350 sq. feet) and the "shop" is sized proportionately. If I'm optimistic with the measurements I think I may have 80 square feet of shop space, in about 1/2 of a 1918-vintage one car garage. Consequently I've been drawing up plans for a woodworking bench, and a separate metalworking/shop/tool bench that will have to be on casters to roll out of the way so I can get to the furnace/lawn mower storage space.
As many have noted, Garage Journal is great! I wish I had enough time to read more of it, but I'd like to get SOME work done in the shop! I'm no craftsman, but I love old tools (especially vises, miter boxes/saws and most any old woodworking tools...and anything made by Lie-Nielsen.)
A quick request: I just picked up a cool old Craftsman 4" belt sander from the late 1960's/1970's which has a broken drive belt. I'm completely stumped on how to get to the belt...can someone suggest where to post my plea for help on GJ?
Thanks much!
Brian
