Hey all - been skimming these boards the last couple months or so and been getting a lot of great info. Finally got plans done and signed a contractor up so ground breaks as soon as permits come through from the city!

Took awhile to design, but I'm getting a nice one! Some of the big hurdles:

1. I live in a historic district in a house on the national register, so no big steel building or prefab unit - needs to match the house/general era design (no biggie since we love our neighborhood and neighbors)
2. Not a huge lot, but a pretty nice space for a downtown lot.
3. Huge oak tree in the middle of the yard - this was the biggest constraint, but we love our big, old trees, so it had to stay!

So here's the overall design of what will be built - 2 car garage 21' W x 25' D inside with a 18 x 8 door (9' ceilings). The deeper dimension will allow a workbench at the back - I mountain bike and need a space to work on bikes and other things. Also will add a beer zone. The side addition will be a separate music studio/workout room and the upstairs will be about 500 sf of space that will serve as a woodworking shop. Going to insulate and heat/cool the whole thing with a mini split system. I'll post pix of the progress on the General board as I move forward, and will likely have plenty of questions!

Hello and welcome. I'm a new member too. Currently having a 20x24 built detached. I also, have city codes to deal with. It has to be vinyl siding and shingle roof, like our house. I will be posting pics once finished.

Again, welcome and happy garage building!

Oh, and GO HOKIES !!!! Our son graduated 2009 from VT. Really hoping the football season gets going start to finish.
